Goring Guide June2017 Goring Residents’Association www.goringresidents.org.uk Charities and the Social Programme At the April AGM the GRA Chairman, Eleanor Millward presented Shoreham National Coastwatch Institution with a cheque for £1300 which they plan to use on enhancing their radar provision with Automatic Identification of Shipping (AIS) which will speed up identification of shipping in the event of an incident developing. The GRA raised the money through raffle, bar and quiz profits from the Association’s Social Programme which runs monthly from September to April. Details of the 2017/18 programme will soon be available in Membership cards which will be distributed by road wardens over the summer period. Two coach trips are also planned, to Windsor on the 2nd October and to Winchester Christmas markets at the end of November. Residents voted to support two charities at the AGM, from a list of 6, nominated prior to the AGM: Canine Partners trains Assistance dogs to support adults who have a physical disability or condition that affects their daily life and limits their independence. The organisation also provides assistance dogs for veterans and those wounded in service. The Kent, Surrey & Sussex Air Ambulance Trust provides a Helicopter Emergency Medical Service (HEMS), responding to patients who have suffered trauma or serious medical emergencies. They operate 24 hours a day, ensuring they can be there for the most critically ill and injured people in the region. They operate two aircraft – one from their Marden base in daylight hours, and the other from their Redhill base 24 hours a day. This means that no matter where you are in Kent, Surrey or Sussex, you are never more than 20 minutes away from the life-saving care that only they can bring directly to your side.
