Proposed SMI Expansion for
Fall 2010
(pending SFA IRB approval)
Identified Populations
 Incoming Freshmen
 Traditional Greek Letter Organizations
 Freshman Athletes
 Residence Hall Residents
Method of Delivery
 All populations will receive the AUDIT
 Half of each population will receive an
offer of immediate session with provider
 Half of each population will receive a list
of qualified SMI providers to seek out
on their own
Reasoning for Method
 Studies show that SMI is effective but we
have little information on best delivery in
higher education
 Do students respond better to immediate
access to a provider that they have not
chosen OR
 Do students respond better after an
opportunity to reflect on AUDIT results and
have the opportunity to choose who they will
see?
