The Falcon Center, centrally located on Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community & Technical College’s campus, provides an environment where students and employees can comfortably interact with one another while enjoying a variety of fitness and wellness programs, dining and casual meeting areas. The campus bookstore, dining hall, fast food services, computer labs, conference center and much more are available for both students, employees. Current Fairmont State & Pierpont students who pay the student activity fee are automatically eligible for the recreation and fitness area. Fairmont State & Pierpont employees and community members may join the facility for a fee. Included in the 140,000 square foot facility are the following: 2 • LOCKER ROOMS - spacious locker rooms with lockers that may be rented. • DINING SERVICES - large dining hall seats 500 with a spacious outdoor terrace. • NICKEL AREA -fast food services, convenience store and smoothie bar. • BOOKSTORE - the bookstore is located on the second level of the Falcon Center. Just look for the beautiful mural on the end wall. A variety of academic and reading books, clothing and many amenities are available for your convenience. • CONFERENCE CENTER - the conference center offers 2,300 square feet of comfortable meeting space. The large center can be split up into three different conference rooms upon request. A convenient drop down screen and state-of-the-art electronic system makes presentations efficient and professional. • STUDENT HEALTH SERVICES - located on the third floor of the Falcon Center for student health needs. • CAMPUS SECURITY- located on the third floor of the Falcon Center. • COPY CENTER - located on the third floor of the Falcon Center for copying and design needs. • ID CARD OFFICE - college identification cards (Falcon ID Card), used by students, faculty/staff, are required for use in the libraries, to enter into the Bryant Place residence hall and Falcon Center (recreation area), to park in the parking garage, and to attend all campus activities and athletic events. It will be used as your meal card in the campus dining facilities (meal plan purchase required). Up to age 24 years are eligible for dependent status. Refund/Cancellation Policy 1. Misrepresenting your association with Fairmont State University or Pierpont Community & Technical College to obtain an identification card to the Falcon Center will result in immediate termination without refund. 2. Employees are not allowed to continue usage of the Falcon Center upon termination of employment at Fairmont State University or Pierpont Community & Technical College. 3. Once a membership has been purchased, there is no freezing of accounts or refunds. Exception: employees can cancel payroll deduction through membership services. They will be able to rejoin, but will not be able to re-start payroll deduction for three months after cancellation. 4. Employee memberships are both yearly and by the semester; student family memberships are per semester. Memberships will be paid in advance with cash, check or charge card, except for eligible employees who pay with payroll deduction. Policies Children Age Policies Under 16 years: An adult must accompany the child through the customer service desk and remain with the youth in the facility. Entrance into the weight room is not permitted for children less than 16 years of age. 16 years and older: Youth can enter the facility without adult supervision. • Payroll Deduction for Employees (24 consecutive pay periods). The number and amount of deductions will be determined for employees with 22/20/18 pay periods. 4 5 ID Cards • A Fairmont State/Pierpont or family Falcon ID card is needed to gain facility access at all times. • Students and employees will use their current activated Falcon ID Cards. • Any guest found guilty of damaging property or violating any Falcon Center policy will lose all privileges immediately. The sponsor will be held accountable for damages. Parking • Fairmont State/Pierpont family members will use their new “Friends of Fairmont” Falcon ID Cards. • Handicapped accessible parking is available in the parking garage and behind the Falcon Center. • If you forget your official Fairmont State/Pierpont Falcon ID card, it will be necessary to pay a $5 daily guest fee for entry into the facility. • Community Memberships have access to parking and will be explained when membership is purchased. • A replacement Falcon ID card can be made for an additional fee. • Falcon ID cards for Fairmont State & Pierpont students, employees and family members will be taken at the Falcon Center reception desk during the following hours: Monday-Friday 8 a.m. - 4 p.m. There are also extended hours on Tuesday and Wednesday from 4 p.m. - 8 p.m. Guest Passes • The Daily Guest Pass fee is $5.00 and applies to operating hours for the entire day in which they are paid. Re-entry during operating hours is allowed. The guest must present the daily guest receipt to re-enter. Refunds will not be issued. • Guests younger than 3 years of age are admitted for free. Those 3 years and older must pay a guest fee. • A sponsor is a Fairmont State or Pierpont student or employee member. • An employee who is a non-member does not need sponsored; please show your Fairmont State/Pierpont Falcon ID card to the reception desk. • Each sponsor will be permitted four guests per visit. The host/sponsor is responsible for orienting all guests to facility policies, accompanying their sponsors in the facility and will be held accountable for their actions. • Guests under the age of 16 years old and the respective sponsor must remain in the same activity area at all times. Guests 16 years and older must be able to provide proof of age upon request. • Guests may participate in informal activities but may not participate in ongoing recreation programs, such as intramurals, fitness classes and programs. Lockers • Permanent lockers located in the male and female locker rooms are available for yearly rental at a cost of $60.00 for employees. • Lockers will be available for rent for students for $20.00 per semester; yearly lockers are not available for students. • Please see the reception desk for payment and assignment of lockers. • There are an additional 50 lockers available for daily usage in the male and female locker rooms. Also available are daily lockers located outside the locker rooms. • As a convenience, the Falcon Center provides locks for daily use for no charge with your Falcon ID card. Lockers will be emptied daily if locks are not removed. Towel Service Workout towels are available for patrons to use during their time in the fitness area. Pool towels are also available for check-out at the reception desk. You must have your Falcon ID card in order to be issued a towel. There is no overnight use of towels. Equipment Checkout Equipment may be checked out with your Falcon ID card at the reception desk. Users are responsible for all equipment and must reimburse the Falcon Center for any lost or damaged equipment. There is no overnight use of equipment. • Guests will not be allowed to check out equipment. 6 7 Lost and Found Lost and found clothing and items that are turned in will be kept for one semester in a secure location. All other lost items will be turned into the Campus Security office. The Falcon Center is not responsible for lost or stolen items. Fitness & Wellness Programs The Falcon Center offers a variety of fitness classes throughout the week, students and members can attend fitness classes free of charge. Classes are limited to persons 16 years and older. Additional Recreational Opportunities The Falcon Center offers a variety of intramural sports and many hours to enjoy informal recreation. All students, faculty, staff and families are encouraged to become active participants. For intramural sports and schedules, call 367-4291. General Facility Policies 9. A parent, legal guardian or other adult must accompany any users under the age of 16 years. 10. Children over 3 years of age are not permitted in the opposite sex locker rooms. Please consider using the family changing room for your convenience. 11. Animals are prohibited in the facility, unless utilized as a guide or assistant for people with disabilities. 12. The Falcon Center is a smoke-free facility. Smoking and tobacco use in any form is prohibited. 13. No food, drink (except water in a closed container) or chewing gum is permitted in any of the recreation areas. All food items must be consumed in designated eating areas. 14. Devices with headphones are permitted in the fitness facility; however, other audio/visual media is prohibited unless authorized. 15. Signs may not be posted on any wall in the Falcon Center. All postings must have prior approval from administration and then may be posted on general use boards. 1. No one will be permitted beyond the reception area without a valid student or employee Falcon card, family Falcon card or guest pass. 16. Bicycles, rollerblades and skateboards are prohibited in all indoor facilities. 2. No one under the influence of drugs or alcohol is permitted to use the facility. 17. Weapons of any kind are strictly prohibited. 3. Appropriate athletic attire is required at all times. This includes wearing a shirt and non-marking soled shoes. No ball caps with snaps or buckles, clothing with belts, buckles or chains are permitted. Swimsuits and swim footwear are required and limited to the aquatics area. 4. Book bags and other personal items are not permitted in any program area of the facility. Day lockers and locker rooms are available for storage of personal items. Center staff cannot guarantee the security of valuables and are not responsible for lost or stolen items. It is therefore recommended that valuable personal items be left at home. 5. Any display of poor conduct, fighting, abusive language or willful destruction of Fairmont State and Pierpont property may result in loss of facility use privileges, and if appropriate, further disciplinary or legal action. 6. Individual patrons shall utilize all recreational facilities at their own risk. 7. For the safety of small children and patrons, no strollers or baby carriers are permitted in the fitness room, track and gymnasiums. 8 8. Report all injuries to the reception desk immediately. 18. If damages occur to the Falcon Center equipment or facilities, the responsible party will pay for the cost of the repair. 19. The Falcon Center will operate in accordance with all campus policies and procedures. 20. Any individual not following appropriate policies or behaviors will be asked to leave the facility. 21. The Falcon Center reserves the right to interpret center regulations in its best interest. Weight and Fitness Room Policies 1. A 30-minute time limit on cardiovascular machines must be observed when someone is waiting. The weight and fitness staff will determine when to enforce time limits. 2. Participants must be 16 years of age or older to use the weight and fitness rooms. Anyone who is under 16 years of age is not allowed in the weight and fitness rooms. 9 3. No food, tobacco of any kind, chewing gum, glass bottles or cans is allowed. If you wish to carry a beverage with you, it must be water in a plastic container with a lid/cap. 5. The use of chalk is prohibited. 4. Profanity and excessively loud or suggestive language will not be tolerated. 7. All free weight equipment must be kept in the free weight area. 5. All users are required to use a clean towel on the weight equipment and to wipe down equipment. (Covering the padded equipment with a towel helps prolong the life of the equipment and keeps everything clean for the next user.) 6. Patrons should use extreme caution in lifting weights to avoid potential injuries to themselves or others. 7. All equipment must remain in the area it was placed. Do not move equipment from one location to another. 8. All equipment must be used in the manner for which it was designed. Do not attempt to modify the equipment. 9. Do not attempt to use equipment if unfamiliar with the proper use. Please ask the fitness staff for assistance. 10. Appropriate exercise attire is required in the weight and fitness rooms. T-shirts, shorts, warm-up suits, sweat suits, aerobic attire and athletic shoes are acceptable attire when working out. Closed-toe athletic shoes are required. Sandals, open-toe shoes, hard-soled shoes, jeans, street clothing and anything that compromises the safety and professionalism of the weight and fitness rooms are prohibited. Ball caps or clothing with buckles or chains are not permitted. 11. Personal belongings such as backpacks, wallets, etc., may not be placed anywhere in the fitness room. Daily lockers are located outside the locker rooms for your convenience. There are also lockers located in the locker rooms. 12. Please direct all questions, concerns and maintenance needs to a fitness staff person on duty. Free Weight Area 1. All weight training should be performed in a controlled, safe manner. Dropping, slamming or bouncing of weights is prohibited. Olympic lifting is prohibited. 2. Spotters are recommended for all lifters. 3. Dumbbell use is limited to one set of dumbbells at a time. 4. All free weights and dumbbells must be returned to appropriate racks when finished. 10 6. Weight collars (plate restraining devices) are required for the free weight area. 8. Weights and bars of any kind should not lean up against the walls, pillars, equipment or mirrors. Multi-Purpose Room Policies 1. All group exercise class participants must be 16 years of age or older. 2. Participants are highly encouraged to arrive to class on time. Late participants may be denied entry to class, at the management’s discretion. 3. It is highly recommended that participants stay for the entire group exercise class to ensure participation in the proper cool-down phase of the class. 4. All equipment must remain in the multi-purpose rooms and must be returned to its proper location after use. Equipment from other areas may not be brought into the multi-purpose rooms. 5. Personal items should be stored in lockers in the locker rooms or hallway. 6. Appropriate athletic attire required at all times, only non-marking athletic shoes are allowed in the multi-purpose rooms. 7. All cycling class participants are encouraged to bring a towel and a water bottle. 8. Personal hand weights are not allowed. Hand weights will be provided in appropriate classes. Hand weights may only be used at the direction of the instructor. Jogging/Walking Track Policies 1. The jogging/walking direction is rotated daily. Please follow the posted direction. 2. Stretching is allowed in designated areas only. 3. For safety purposes, no loitering is allowed on the track surface. 4. Personal belongings, gym bags, backpacks, etc., are not permitted on the running track; day lockers and locker rooms are available for storage of personal items. 11 Falcon Center Recreation • Hanging or playing on lane lines 1. Aquatics General Rules & Regulations The Aquatics area will close prior to the facility closing for maintenance. 1. Violations of the general rules or any conduct, which may endanger or impair the safety of anyone, may be cause for permanent expulsion from the Aquatics area at the discretion of the Aquatics staff or the supervisor on duty. 2. All participants are encouraged to take a shower before entering the pool area. 3. The Aquatics area may close at the discretion of the Manager on duty or the lifeguards for the following reasons: • Diving is prohibited floatation, rafts) 6. All persons wearing diapers must wear a swim diaper under their swimsuit that will contain fecal matter and prevent it from entering the pool. 7. Appropriate swimming attire is required. Only conventional, clean bathing suits may be worn. No cut-offs, walking shorts or jeans are permitted in the pool. 8. It is requested that shoulder length hair or longer be tied back or put in a swim cap. 9. Public display of affection is prohibited. 10. Swimming is only permitted when two lifeguards are on duty; do not distract the lifeguards from their duties. 11. Floatation devices may be used for the purpose of making our pools accessible to persons with disabilities or at the discretion of the lifeguard on duty. A US Coast Guard approved personal floatation device may be worn provided the wearer is being assisted by a responsible and experienced swimmer. 12. All persons shall always follow directions given by the lifeguards on duty. One long whistle by the lifeguard indicates an emergency and is the signal for all participants to clear the pool and spa. • In the event of inclement weather, i.e., lightning/thunder. • In the presence of possible health concerns from waterborne or blood borne bacteria. 4. Adult supervision is required in the aquatic areas for youth under 16 years. 5. The following are not permitted within the pool area: • Food, drinks or chewing gum • Street shoes • Persons under the influence of alcohol • Running, rough play, shoving or general horseplay • Profane language 12 Pool Etiquette • When lap swimming in a lane with 2 or more people, please “circle” swim in a counterclockwise direction. • Select a lane consisting of swimmers whose speeds are comparable to yours. • When entering an occupied lane, please let the swimmer know before you begin swimming. • If you must rest at the end of the lane, please stand at the side corner by the lane line as to not impede another swimmer’s turn. • Please be courteous to other swimmers. 13 Jacuzzi Rules 1. All users must shower before entering. 2. Please enter and exit slowly and cautiously. 3. Long exposure to hot tubs may result in nausea, dizziness or fainting. There will be a 15 minute time limit. 4. Individuals cannot completely submerge themselves in the spa. 5. The spa is not advised for individuals with heart disease, abnormal blood pressure, epilepsy or emotional disorders. 6. Pregnant women are advised against using the hot tub. 7. Children 16 years and under are not allowed to use the Jacuzzi. 8. Do not use the hot tub while under the influence of drugs or alcohol. 9. People with open wounds or infectious diseases are not permitted in the hot tub. Sauna Rules 1. Bathing suits are required. 2. Individuals must shower before using sauna. 3. Shower after using sauna and before entering pool. 4. No newspapers, magazines or paper products are permitted in sauna. 5. Wear or sit on a towel to protect wood from perspiration. 6. People with open wounds or infectious diseases are not permitted in the sauna. 7. Do not put water on the sauna heater. 8. Children16 years and under are not allowed to use the sauna. 9. Long exposure to the sauna may result in nausea, dizziness or fainting. There will be a 15 minute limit while in use.
