We also have tumbling and flyer stretch classes, for some people one of these classes each week is compulsory, but even if this isn’t the case for you we recommend our athletes do as many stretch and tumble classes as possible!! Below is a description of what each class is, please feel free to trial them in the first few weeks of cheer (excluding group stunt). Flyer Stretch: In order to increase the difficulty in stunts our flyers need to be able to be very flexible in the air. This class is designed to help improve the specific strength and flexibility our flyers need. Anyone is welcome to do this class if they would like a good stretch once a week J Tumbling: If you would like to move up the levels of cheer it is crucial that you are able to tumble. So whether you are a beginner wanting to learn a cartwheel or an advanced tumbler wanting to learn a full twist we have a fun class for you. Group Stunt: If you love to stunt, then this is the class for you! Find 3 or 4 of your friends (or ask us to find them for you) and you will learn to put together a 1 minute routine full of non stop stunts to compete at all of the competitions. Pom: This is the more dance style of cheer. Pom is a 2minute 30 second routine full of leaps, turns, jumps, kicks, tricks and choreography. In 2015 these classes will be run in our new state of the art dance room! Hip Hop: Cheer competitions also offer Hip Hop sections! These are also 2 minute 30 second dance routines. Hip Hop is a fairly freestyle of dance that involves popping, locking, tutting, lots of tricking and more. This class will also be run in our new dance room. Cheer: In case you weren’t sure cheer is probably the most popular of them all. It is a routine with 10 -‐
30people and involves stunting, jumping, tumbling and dancing. You are welcome to do any of the above classes in addition to your cheer team training. If you would like to do Group Stunt you MUST be enrolled into a cheer team. You do not have to be enrolled in a cheer team to do pom, hip hop, flyer or tumbling classes. 19-‐21 Leighton Place Hornsby M: 0410323767 E: [email protected] www.icongymsports.com ICON GYMSPORTS ALL STAR CHEERLEADING INFO PACK Commitment and Attendance Being an Icon cheerleader is a lot of fun and is very rewarding. However as cheerleading is a team sport with no reserves it is also a big commitment and one we do not take lightly. The ICON teams are competitive cheerleading squads. There are not many cheerleading competitions each year but every competition is compulsory. The last session before every competition is also compulsory! If you aren’t available for every competition and the last training session before please do not accept your position in the team. Competitions and compulsory training sessions are specified at the beginning of each season to ensure you do not miss any! Whilst we understand that at times illness and injuries are unavoidable it is important that you also understand that no one can replace you in your team. If you are injured it is important that you still attend training to watch the routine and to learn your position for when you make your return to training. If you are too sick to attend it is vital to let us know that you will not be at training. Should you be unable to attend training for any other reason it is expected that Rosie will be notified ASAP. If this is a planned absence please ensure that every measure to avoid this absence has been taken and please let Rosie know as far in advance as possible. Acceptable reasons to miss a regular lesson (not a compulsory lesson) include: -‐
-‐
-‐
-‐
School camp or important function A death in the family Contagious sickness or vomiting (Rosie must be advised) Weddings or very important family events Unacceptable reasons to miss a regular lesson include: -‐

Injury (athletes are expected to come to training and watch unless agreed otherwise) Work Other sporting commitments School Work (we understand this is important but it is your responsibility to time manage) Traffic Being unable to get to training (let Rosie know if this is a problem and she will help you sort it out) Should an athlete be absent for a number of classes and for reasons deemed unacceptable it is at the complete discretion of Rosie to dismiss the athlete from the team, no refunds will be given in this instance. Arriving to class on time is vital as we have very limited time to train each week and expect athletes to be ready to go at their designated start time. This means, Shoes on, hair tied back, training gear on and no jewellery at all under any circumstances. I do not set these rules for fun, please remember Cheerleading is a team sport unlike any other we do not have reserves or anyone else that can take your place. As a member of your squad in either Cheer or Dance you are highly valued and your team is unable to compete or practice properly without you. 19-‐21 Leighton Place Hornsby M: 0410323767 E: [email protected] www.icongymsports.com ICON GYMSPORTS ALL STAR CHEERLEADING INFO PACK COMPETITIONS AND COSTS In the past competitions have been one day for dance and one day for cheer. However as cheerleading is growing in Australia they have to split both cheer and dance across the weekend in 2 different halls. Which means we don’t know what day (Saturday or Sunday) you will be competing on until the month or so before so please keep both days available. All competitions in 2015 will only involve 1 day of competition per routine. The Open Team – Vipers, have a slightly different schedule to everyone else. This is because AASCF Nationals clashes with the HSC/schoolies which so many of our team members are involved with. This will be discussed in depth with the team members involved. Final Work Plans/Run Sheets for each competition are usually not available until 7-‐14 days before each competition. For this reason it is important to ensure that these days are kept free for the competition. Should your athletes have another sporting commitment it may be wise to ask in advance to be absent on this day. Potentially they can do both but remember Cheerleading does not have reserves unlike, soccer, netball and many other sports. Competitions will be invoiced with Term Fees throughout the year. 19-‐21 Leighton Place Hornsby M: 0410323767 E: [email protected] www.icongymsports.com ICON GYMSPORTS ALL STAR CHEERLEADING INFO PACK NATIONALS In 2015 Icon is heading back to the biggest and best competition in Australia – AASCF Nationals, it is back at the convention centre in Melbourne! This really is an incredible event to be apart of, with thousands of athletes competing on a raised stage with spectacular lighting and sounds effects. Athletes are expected to organise their own travel to Melbourne and accommodation. I understand not all parents will be able to travel to Melbourne so early in the new year we will organise some parents who are happy to have some extra’s stay with them. As it is up to you to organise your own trip you can make it as cheap or expensive as you wish. UNIFORMS Cheer Shoes are compulsory for all athletes. These are specialised shoes that do not damage the gym mats and make stunting/tumbling much safer and easier for the athletes. Unless your child already had cheer shoes these will need to be paid for with the first terms fees and will be fitted in the first few weeks of training. All athletes will also be required to purchase the following uniform items for competition. This is the second year in this uniforms cycle; we will be keeping this uniform for 2015 and 2016. For this year a club jacket and bag are compulsory for all athletes. In 2014 these items were optional, however we asked that only club uniform was worn at competition. As this was not adhered to we now need to make these items compulsory. If you already have any of the items below you will not need to purchase them again. Cheer Shoes $85.00 -‐ $110 APX (depending on the brand) Cheer Uniform $150.00 Hip Hop Uniform TBC Hair Bow (females only) $20.00 Poms $30.00 Dance Shoes $50 Club Hoodie $45 Club Back Back $55 Cheer shoes are not to be worn outside the gym other than a performance or competition. TRAINING ATTIRE All athletes need to wear an Icon top to training. Every athlete will be given a Tshirt at the beginning of the year. There will also be many alternatives available to purchase. Any pants can be worn as long as the athlete is able to easily move and go upside down in them. Cheer shoes/soft soled runners must be worn to every session. Due to the high level of contact involved in our sport jewellery and long nails are not permitted and hair must always be tied back, this is for safety reasons. 19-‐21 Leighton Place Hornsby M: 0410323767 E: [email protected] www.icongymsports.com ICON GYMSPORTS ALL STAR CHEERLEADING INFO PACK EXTRA TRAINING UNIFORM As mentioned above there are extra training uniform options available to purchase.
