Z ACK S EM ANDER
1929-1999
For over 30 years, Zack Semander
was an integral part of the
Kinkaid community –
first as a math teacher,
secondly, as head varsity
boys golf coach, but
most importantly, as
the father of four Kinkaid
graduates. Ethical, hardworking, compassionate,
dedicated to his profession,
Zack was a great role model.
Through the strength of his personality
and character, he commanded his students’ respect
and attention. It was with much love and affection
that the Kinkaid Alumni Association chose in 2000
to honor Zack by naming this tournament the Zack
Semander Memorial Golf Tournament.
Proceeds from the tournament initially supported
the Zack Semander Endowed Scholarship Fund. In
2006, this fund was fully endowed, and it annually
provides a financial aid scholarship to a deserving
student who can contribute significantly
to the life of the School.
In 2007, tournament planners
agreed to allocate future
tournament proceeds to
create a need-based endowed
scholarship in honor of one of
Zack’s good friends and colleagues, Tom Wey.
Since joining Kinkaid in 1976, his responsibilities
have included teaching Upper School math, Dean
of Boys and coach for many sports including
varsity football, baseball and track, the Upper
School’s schedule coordinator and director of
Interim Term. Kinkaid proudly recognizes Tom for
his proven loyalty and the dedication he continues
to put forth as a renowned faculty member.
