Friday Letter for Parents and Carers

Friday Letter for Parents and Carers
23rd September 2016
Principal and Head of School Update
Dear Parents and Carers
We have just come to the end of week three and the children have already
done so much learning! The whole school are now practising their spelling,
grammar and punctuation first thing on a morning when they arrive at
school. Please can I ask that EVERY child arrives at school ready to go into
class for 8:50am. We have lots of children coming just a little bit too late
and they are missing that vital learning time. Doors open at 8:50am and we
would like to see every child walking in then, thank you for your support with
this.
On Monday morning (26th September) we hare hosting a
MacMillan Coffee Morning. All parents and
carers are invited to join us for a cup of tea
or coffee and one of our delicious cakes All
donations go to this wonderful charity.

Terrific Tigers
The Stone Age
Our first challenge was to work out where, on a timeline of history, the Stone
Age belonged. We compared pictures of Stone Age people to pictures of
people from Roman, Viking and Tudor times, looking for clues that would tell
us which group of people were the first to live in Britain.
Our second learning challenge question was ‘What was life like during the
Stone Age?’ We learned that Stone Age people left cave paintings to show
what life for them was like as they hunted and foraged for food, build their
own houses and tools from whatever they could find, and make clothes
from animal skin! We acted out parts of Stone Age life in groups while the
rest of the class guessed what was being shown. We ended the lesson by
creating some of our own cave art using brown paper and charcoal. The
children had a wonderful time smudging and shading their work to show
Stone Age people hunting, cooking, foraging
and even fighting wars! We are looking forward
to finding the answers to these learning
challenge questions before half term: What did
Stone Age people eat? What did Stone Age
houses look like? If you know anything about
the Stone Age that could help us answer these
questions, do not hesitate to come and tell any
of the Terrific Tigers!
Parents Forum
A parents forum is a group of parents who
represent other parents views, run by parents’
with support from the school. It will be a new
group led by parents to have a say in school
improvement. If you are interested please let
the office know by the 7th October on 555000.
Holidays in Term Time
Can we please remind you that children
should not be absent from school due to
holidays as it impacts on their learning and
friendships. Holidays are recorded as
unauthorised absences on the child’s
record. In line with Government policy, the
council may fine families who do take
holidays in term time and this is a situation
we really want to avoid.
School Lunches
Can we please remind parents that the cost
of a school meal has increased to £2.25. You
