If we know the conversion factor we can change the given unit of measure into a desired unit of measure.

expressed as a fraction that equals 1.

Making a Conversion Factor
12 inches = 1 foot 3 feet = 1 yard
3.3 feet = 1 meter
1760 yards = 1 mile
5280 feet = 1 mile
16 ounces = 1 pound
60 seconds = 1 minute
60 minutes = 1 hour
4 quarts = 1 gallon

Important info. when using a conversion factor
Circle the correct choice.
1) It is important to put the appropriate units in either the numerator or denominator to get desired units.
2) Put the same units in denominator as units given so they will cancel out.
