The Acoustical Testing Center (ATC) at the Fridley plant of Cummins Power Generation is the
largest engine-testing facility of its kind in the world. This innovative building provides several
significant advantages:
Its state-of-the-art hemispherical anechoic (no echo) chamber
eliminates external noise interference or input.
We can now measure precisely the noise output from fully
assembled generator sets of all types and sizes.
Pinpointing the sources of noise in a generator set helps
us design quieter, “greener” products.
The ATC reduces the environmental impact on the surrounding
neighborhood by eliminating the need for outdoor testing.

Air-handling units: capable of moving 222,500 CFM of air through test cell
Architecture sets standard for future expansion
Constructed following LEED guidelines for green building design
Ensures sounds from building are well below property-line noise requirements
Basic right-first-time infrastructure will be able to handle generator sets
up to 4.4 MW in the future and accommodate building expansion
