Mrs.Hursey’s 3rd Grade
We can’t believe the
school year is more than
half over already. We
have been learning so
much in third grade that
it has gone super fast.
We have been talking
about measurement in
math, using rulers and
meter sticks and made
our gallon man to show
how many cups, pints,
and quarts are in one
gallon. We just finished
a big Native American
project in Social Studies,
learning about eight
different tribes across
North America. We are
talking about mammals,
fish, birds, reptiles, and
amphibians in science.
We made insects for a
“bird” to try to find since
we camouflaged them
somewhere in the
classroom. We’ve talked
about several parts of
speech this school year,
and are moving on to
capitalization and
contractions this week.
Third graders can
compare and contrast
characters in a story, as
well as, plots. We have
been busy this year, and
are getting prepared to
take our first ISAT tests in
March. Third graders take
three math and three
reading tests. We are not
worried about the tests,
because we are prepared
to take them and look
forward to eating a healthy
breakfast and being well
rested for those two weeks
of testing. This has been
a quick year, we are
already looking forward to
fourth grade.
Mrs. Moreno’s 5th Grade
This was an educated,
amazing play about Rosa
Parks. It starts out with an
intro song going into a story
of Rosa Park's life. Rosa
Parks was Christmas
shopping and got on the bus.
There is an empty seat in the
middle of the bus(front
reserved for the white
people, back reserved for the
black, and the middle for the
bus driver to decide). Rosa
Parks got married in
December 1992. Rosa
Parks was unhappy that
blacks had the right to vote
but no one let them. May 17
Rosa made it into Supreme
Court. They started a boycott
too.
Some people got fired
from their jobs by joining
the boycott. In the end
blacks and whites were
brought together. Cast,
included Tatian as Rosa
Parks, Emily Moller as
Grandma, and Ean Hase
as grandfather.

Biomes
In Mrs. Wilson’s class we are making biomes out of
shoeboxes. Our choices are the tundra, taiga, deciduous forest,
grassland, desert, tropical rain forest, and water biomes. We are
going to make a surrounding in the shoebox of our biome. So if I
had a water biome for my shoebox I would put fish, dolphins,
sharks, whales, and other sea animals and so on. The easiest
part of this project is the coloring. The tricky and hard part is that
you have to make it 3-D! The water biome has three zones. The
intertidal zone, near-shore zone and the open-ocean zone. The
biome I chose was the intertidal zone.

Our Mr. Dodecahedron
In Mrs. Wilson’s class we made Dodecahedrons.
A Dodecahedron is a mathematical shape with 12 side sand
faces . We all think that they all turned out good.

Happy Chinese New Year
In Mrs. Wilson’s 5th/6th grade we celebrated the Chinese
New Year by trying all different types of Chinese food like rice
crackers, mango coconut jelly, and rice cookies. We were able
to learn about our Chinese zodiac animal and the
characteristics of that animal. That was how we were able to
celebrate a foreign holiday.

The Phantom Tollbooth
In Mrs. Wilson’s 5th/6th grade class room we read the
book, “The Phantom Tollbooth” by: Norton Juster. This book
was really fun and interesting to read because there were so
many interesting characters and chapters. I hope the next book
we read will be just as good as the Phantom Tollbooth.

Blame it on the Wolf
Written by Ms. Clarke’s Class
Now we present the play that we did in Ms. Clarke’s class, Blame it on the
Wolf. In the play, characters tell their own parts of what happened, and so
does the wolf. It was a really funny play because “the wolf” had a funny
voice and acted funny. Some of the characters had funny names like Auntie
Pot Pie, who was Old Red’s twin sister. We liked the story because it had
funny characters from different stories such as Chicken Little, Hansel,
Gretel, the three pigs, and the wolf. The play brought us together as a team
because we had to work together to do the play.
Squiggy, Iggie, and Moe were the three little pigs played by Stephanie,
Dakota, and Kaylynn. Hansel and Gretel were played by Emma and Michael,
the judge was Nathan, the wolf was Ethan, some of the officers and jury
members were played by Justin, Keyanna, A’Lonie, Storm, Emily was Auntie
Pot Pie, Merissa was Little Red Riding Hood, Jasmine was Old Red, Cristian
was Chicken Little, Lauren was Henny Penny, and Ashley was Turkey
Lurkey. Some of us had more than one part if they were smaller.
We learned that the characters helped each other out and before
deciding something, we have to look at both sides of the story. Don’t believe
everything you hear, it might not be true. We also learned that we can treat
others how they want to be treated. Don’t always blame someone if you
don’t know they did it or not. If you didn’t see it with your own eyes, don’t
say anything at all unless someone is actually hurt. After we read the story,
we reread it and were able to act it out. After that, we changed parts and
tried acting out the story again. We also watched some old clips like Hansel
and Gretel, Little Red Riding Hood, and Chicken Little to see how the
characters were in other stories. The stories were all different than the one
we read and acted out. Some of the differences were the names, how the
stories were told, and how they looked and acted. We all loved the play!
