Purpose of role:
The Senior Broadcast Producer will be expected to over-see and co-ordinate the broadcast
output of Fixers, working closely with Producers, Researchers and the Director of Broadcast
to garner the best possible lines and stories for the TV audience, to provide leadership in
editorial and logistics, and to ensure the highest production values in our output, as well as
compliance on reputation, taste and law. The Senior Producer will be expected to take a
hands on role, themselves producing some broadcast items, including news features,
programme inserts and/or longer programmes and live productions.
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Lead the Broadcast team, and deputise for Director of Broadcast when necessary.
2. Liaise with Producers and Researchers to predict, promote and plan monthly films for
news programmes throughout the broadcast regions, encouraging clear themes and
relevant content. Monitor and maintain quality thresholds for style, meaning, visuals
and technical input.
3. Arrange for the team to be organised in a way that enables the delivery of output ...
including occasional longer format productions, when required.
4. Carry out hands on production on at least two monthly items for regional news
programmes, and also to take a senior hands-on role in longer format recorded or live
productions, including regular celebratory events like The Big Fix Live!
5. Ensure all broadcasting legal requirements are closely monitored and met, including
collecting consent forms for contributors and creative contributions, putting in place
special requirements and permissions for young, vulnerable, or those involved in court
proceedings, and applying the normal laws of defamation

PERSON SPECIFICATION
Criteria or Competency
Knowledge
Extensive and instinctive understanding of TV news and
current affairs production, news priorities, compliance to
required legal frameworks and safeguards, the personality
and preoccupations of TV news decision-makers and the
nature of the audience of differing broadcast platforms.
Experience
In depth and extended experience within TV news and
current affairs at producer, reporter and/or programme
editor level, including extensive location production as
producer/director, edit supervision of short and longer
format films, script-writing, editorial decision-making and
leading production teams.
Skills
Relaxed, able leadership, ability to encourage and support
creative personalities, take responsibility, tackle problems
quickly and predict future issues. Production expertise and
ability in all relevant areas including directing, editing, scriptwriting, planning of small and large-scale productions, hiring
of staff, selection of locations, facilities and technical
requirements. Talented producer of meaningful films that
communicate well and engage the audience.

example and encouragement. Providing a human face to
staff and contributors, but prepared to take tough decisions.
Qualifications
Degree level education [not necessarily a media degree] or
experience amounting to equivalent.
