DAILY NOTICES – FRIDAY 10 MARCH 2017 – DAY 2 WHOLE SCHOOL: Maths tutoring on today in room C7 SPELLING BEE (JUNIORS): Do you enjoy correctly spelled words? Want to hang out with others who do too? If you’re a Year 9 or 10 student, come to a meeting Thursday lunchtime in H2 to find out about the 2017 Spelling Bee. Y9 ART EXTENSION CLASSES: If you are a creative student who loves Art sign up for a 3 week after school Art extension class from 3.30 – 5pm. You don’t have to be an Art student to sign up. The sign up sheet is at the top of A Block on the notice board opposite A15. Be quick – limited spaces. Ask an Art teacher for further information. Come to a meeting in B4 at lunchtime on Tuesday and hear from students who did the challenge last year and get information on what is involved. INSPIRE GROUP: Meets in B1 on Friday lunchtimes. All religions welcome to come along and have fun. This week Racquel Manase from City Impact Church is coming to speak. MUNA APPLICANTS: If you could all put your application forms into the box outside A25. (Ignore the incorrect date!). Be prepared to speak on your chosen topic on Monday in A20 YES: Meeting for YES students is on Tuesday 14 March 12.30pm in A32. This meeting is important, and all should attend. A registration fee of $35 is payable to Mr Cowley ASAP. KNOWLEDGE CAFÉ: We have the Peace Foundation coming in on Friday at lunchtime in A25 to discuss the current status of nuclear weapons in the world and NZ’s nuclear free policy. Lucy and Lyndon have been chosen as NZ delegates to the United Nations in July. All welcome. PHILOSOPHY CLUB: All students to attend a preliminary meeting in A29 at Interval on Friday. WHOLE SCHOOL: Just a reminder that the Pupuke Charity ‘Shine’ is part of the Mufti Day next Wednesday 15th March. Wear orange if you can. Gold Coin donation and the best dressed in orange will win a prize! 5 days to go! LIBRARY CLUEDO: We will be drawing the winner of the tablet on Monday at 11.10am (interval time) in the Library. If the winner is not present, we will also announce them in the daily notices the following day. SPORTS BASKETBALL: The final Basketball trial to be held on Friday 10th March at 6.45am, YMCA Akoranga Drive, is for those wishing to trial for the Junior Premier team only (ie year 9 and year 10 players that have previously played Basketball). We still require players for an Under 15 team (students that will not be turning 15 this year) If you are interested in playing on a Wednesday night for the U15 team, please see Mrs Wareham in the sports Department. Any other basketball queries please contact us. YR 9 AND 10 HOCKEY PLAYERS: Due to a great turn out at trials last week we are having a Junior 1st XI, Junior 2nd XI and Junior Red call back trial. The list of players for this call back is in the Sports Dept. It will be Monday 13th March 5:30-6:45pm on the school turf. See you there! CYCLING: Westlake Boys Cycling Club is hosting a start of season ride then barbecue. Sunday 12th March at 11 am, to be held at the Pavilion. All members of Westlake Girls Cycling are welcome: students, parents and teachers. Pot luck, bring a dish. Also please join the ride first. A planned ride is scheduled for 7am Sunday morning (parents welcome to ride). More details to follow. YEAR 9 NETBALL CALLBACK: There are two call backs please check on noticeboard in Sports Department to see if you are on list and tick to confirm attendance. First call back is today 1pm – 3pm on the covered courts. All remaining players will be placed in a team. SENIOR NETBALL & SENIOR SOCIAL TEAMS: Teams will not be announced until all fees of $160 are paid. Only 18/156 have paid so far, if you need to arrange a payment plan please come and see Mrs Baker in the Sports Department. If you no longer wish to play please let Mrs Baker know.
