Principal’s Message
We are off to a great start to the new school year and back in the
swing of things! One of the “new” things at Union School you may
have heard about is the addition of Chrome Books at the middle
school level. During the 2015-2016 school year, Union School was
awarded a State of Connecticut Technology Grant in the amount
of $10,000.00. The funds were used to purchase these new devices
so our students are well prepared in today’s technology world.
Have a great weekend! -Mr. Jackopsic 

Class of 2017 Fundraising and Class Advisor Update
In the Community
The Class of 2017 is well on its way to raising funds for the
Washington D.C. trip in May. So far, the class has already
raised over $9,000.00 for the much anticipated trip. This past
Old Home Day, students and parents were back at it with
fundraising efforts and raised almost $300.00. Great work!
The 8th grade class advisors this year are Mrs. Paine and Mr.
Huda. Mrs. Escalona will serve as the 7th grade class advisor.
Nurses’ Corner
Welcome back from your nurses: Lois and LeeAnn!
We are your nurses—Lois Demurjian and LeeAnn Rossi-Brothers! We
are here every day to help keep your children healthy. Looking
forward to another great school year at Union School!
State of Connecticut Regulation regarding Epi-pen usage for “new
life-threatening reactions”, a parent’s ability to ‘opt out’:
The State of CT requires schools to give parents the ability to ‘opt
out’ of school staff giving their son/daughter an epi-pen, in the case
of a new, first time, life threatening reaction. This is distinctly
separate from the student who has a documented life threatening
allergy and a prescription for an epi-pen from a physician. If you
would like to “opt out” of school staff administering an epi-pen for a
new, first time, life threatening reaction, please send a letter/email
to the school nurse. If we do not have a letter/email from you, we
will proceed to administer the epi-pen in an emergency and follow
our policies and procedures in such a situation.
