Tennis Club Constitution
Preamble:
The purpose of this club is to offer a time and place where fellow students may convene
to play the sport of tennis. The club's goal is to allow for a setting where people who
know the game can play without having to compete and those who are new to the game
may learn.
Article I: name
Since there is no such clubs like it, the club would simply be "The Tennis Club".
Article II: purpose
In a broad sense, the club's purpose is to keep those students who play tennis, or would
like to play tennis, active on campus. For some this club may be the only form of exercise
they get, while for others it would simply be another activity during the week. Because it
is not competitive per se, it would also be a good outlet for students to meet other
students with the same interest.
Article III: membership
Anyone who would like to play tennis with other members of the Bates community may
join The Tennis Club; students, faculty members, and staff are all welcome to play. To
join, a person interested may simply send an email to the president requesting
information on when and where the club meets.
Article IV: officers
president
vice-president
treasurer
secretary
Article V: finances
Tennis has two basic needs in terms of equipment: racquets and balls. Since the club is
open to all members of the Bates community, it is probable that those who decide to play
have never played before and have not invested in said things that are needed to play
tennis. The club would expect to have a handful of racquets available for new players and
playable tennis balls for all members in attendance.
Article VI: amendments
Amendments to this constitution may be made by the president. All members will be
notified of the changes, which will go into effect no sooner than one (1) week after the
changes have been made and sent out for review. If, and only if, all other members
disagree with the proposed amendment will it not be passed.
