Example 1: Reading
Reading is a worthwhile activity.
It teaches you new facts, and it can take you away from your problems for awhile.
A book that is interesting will open new interests for you.
What else can reading do?
As Ernest Hemingway said, “There is no friend as loyal as a book.”
Many people like to read, and you will too.
Reading is good for you.
Example 2: Holidays
Holidays are fun and relaxing.
I get to spend time with the family, and I don’t have to work.
When I celebrate the holidays, I hang out with my family and friends.
How do you spend the holidays?
As I read a good book and relax, sometimes I fall asleep and snooze the day away.
I enjoy going shopping, and I enjoy cooking and baking for my family.
Holidays are my favorite time of year.
Rough Draft
1. Choose a theme for your poem.
2. Make sure to have variety in your sentences. Don’t say the
same thing over and over!
3. After you write your sentences do the following:
– Underline your subjects once and underline your verbs twice in your
simple and compound sentences.
– Check to make sure you have 1 independent clause in your simple
sentence and 2 independent clauses in your compound sentences.
– In your complex sentences, highlight your dependent clause.
– Your interrogative sentence should end with a question mark.
4. Your final copy must be TYPED and
decorated. BE CREATIVE.
Final copy is a TEST grade!
