You will need:

Have kids help make the hopscotch board!

Throw a rock to a number and hop only to that number OR
throw a rock and skip the number it lands on.

Time who can go the fastest.

Hopscotch to the beat of the music!

Hopscotch train— kids line up and hop in succession. Go back
to the beginning and repeat to keep it flowing.
Jump rope
Jump into fun!
Jump Rope
You will need jump ropes of various sizes to keep everyone active.

Use 15 ft. ropes when kids jump in with 2 people turning the ropes and 5 ft. ropes
for individual jumpers.

Hardware stores have spools of inexpensive rope or pick up plastic ropes at a
dollar store.

See who can jump the longest, fastest, and funniest!

Jump to the beat of music.

Use two ropes for double-dutch with students.


Beach ball
Fun
Toss some fun into your day!
Beach ball fun

You will need beach ball(s) with different activities written on each color. Use one
beach ball per 10 students.
1.
Group stands in a circle. Toss the beach ball across the circle. The catcher calls out
the activity on the color where their right thumb landed when they caught the ball.
2.
Everyone in the circle does the activity that is called out and counts out loud
together.
3.
Repeat for at least 5 minutes, making sure each student in the circle has
had a chance to catch the ball at least once.

Use multiple beach balls with different activities written on each color to mix it up.

Ask your group to create the activities to write on the colored panels.

Play to music!

In the air!

You will need a beach ball or balloon, one per 5 students.
1.
The group stands in a circle.
2.
Ask the group to toss the ball or balloon around and across the circle without letting it touch the ground.
3.
Count how many consecutive hits the group can accumulate without catching the ball or letting it touch the ground.
4.
When the ball is caught or hits the ground, start over.

Challenge groups by adding additional balls or balloons.

Invite the group to come up with variations.
Zigzag relay
Cooperation + Competition = Fun
Zigzag relay

You will need a beach ball or balloon, one per 10 students.
1.
Nine people stand in a zigzag line with 4-5 feet between them.
2.
The group passes the ball or balloon down the line as quickly as possible.
3.
The 10th person attempts to run around the outside of the zigzag line before the ball or balloon makes it down and back.
4.
When finished, the runner joins the zigzag line and the person at the front of
the line then becomes the runner. Continue until everyone in the line has
had a turn to be the runner.

With more than one group, see which group can get done
in the fastest time.
Fives!
A spin on the classic high five!
Fives
1.
Groups stands in random formation. People move in a scattered formation
using a locomotor movement called out by the leader (hop, skip, march,
lunge, etc.).
2.
When the leader says “high fives!,” the group gives high fives to as many
people as possible.
3.
After 10-15 seconds, the leader calls out another locomotor movement.
4.
Continue with as many variations as possible for desired time.

Have students come up with additional locomotor movements.

This activity increases group connection.

1.
Group stands in a scattered formation with an arms-length of space in either
direction.
2.
The leader calls out an activity by saying, “Simon says to…”
3.
Continue for desired amount of time.

Possible activities include:

Shake your whole body

Pretend to sit in an invisible chair five times (sit then stand, sit then stand…)

Bend to touch your toes 10 times

Pretend to ride a horse

Pretend to milk a cow

Show your arm muscles
Freeze
Dance
Get your groove on!
Freeze Dance

You will need something to play music on—a CD player, phone with speakers, etc.
1.
Group stands in a scattered formation with an arms-length of space in either
direction.
2.
Begin playing music and encourage group to dance. After 30 seconds, pause
the song.
3.
When the song pauses, people freeze in their favorite dance pose. After 10
seconds, play the music again.
4.
Continue by repeating steps 2-3 until the song ends.

Have kids help create the dance playlist.
Hula
Hoop
Be a hoopster, not a hipster
Hula Hoop

You will need multiple hula hoops, one for each student.

Have students hula to the beat of the music.

Encourage students to try to hula with different body parts (hips, arms, legs,
etc.).


You will need several pieces of 8.5x11 in. paper
1.
Line pieces of paper up close enough to jump to across a 10-15 ft. distance.
2.
Group lines up and takes turns jumping from piece to piece until they make it
to the other end.
3.
Once they reach the end, call out another locomotor movement for group to
do back to the beginning of the line (hop, skip, leap, etc.).
4.
Repeat for desired amount of time.

Do this activity with music for an added level of fun!
