Flowchart Link

Intel
The Flowchart Link allows you to create a report broken out by week that can be seamlessly integrated
into the IMS Brandfx® tool and displayed as a flowchart. Using this shortcut, you can quickly create a
visual representation of the competition’s media plan, including a wide variety of data elements, such as
parent company, subsidiary, brand, media type, GRPs, and creative title. The Flowchart Link also allows
you to create an exportable file that can be imported into a variety of other flowcharting software or into Excel.
Brandfx Reader Setup
Users must have Brandfx Reader v4.3.3.8 or higher installed in order to use this feature.
You may download the latest version of the Brandfx Reader from this website.
If you are a user of the desktop version of Nielsen Ad Intel, you are most likely using a version of
Brandfx that is lower than what is required in the web version. In order to check which version
you are running, go to Help -> About Brandfx in the Brandfx Reader software.
Create a Flowchart Link Report
The Flowchart Link is a Predefined Layout available within the Report Layout filter. From the Report Layout page,
click on the Predefined Layout radio button and select Flowchart Link from the drop-down. By default, data will
be reported at the brand level. If you would like to see the brands broken out by variant, click on the Based on
Brand Variant radio button.

2.) The Flowchart Link configuration window will now be displayed. From the list of Available Vehicles on the left,
select the desired data elements. These items will comprise the rows in your Flowchart.
- You can re-order the Selected Vehicles using the up and down arrows to the right of the selected box.
- If you would like to scale back the data in your
Brandfx Flowchart to a subset of what you ran
in your Flowchart Link report, highlight the
desired item in the Selected Vehicles list and
click on View Data. From the resulting pop-up
window, you can reduce your selections to
include a subset of data.
- By default, all of your selected vehicles
will appear within a single Flowchart.
- If you would like to divide the results into
multiple tabs, click on the Create Multiple option,
followed by the Sheets radio button. In the
resulting Brandfx Flowchart, you will have one
tab for each of the items within your primary
vehicle (the first vehicle in your Selected Vehicles list).
- For example, if Daypart is the first item in your Selected Vehicles list, you will have one tab per daypart in your Brandfx
Flowchart. If you would like to have one Flowchart file for each item within your primary vehicle, select the Files radio button.
Click on Download Brandfx File.
Click on Open to open the resulting Flowchart in Brandfx.
After the flowchart opens, click the Excel icon if you wish
to copy the flowchart to Excel.
- If you requested multiple files in the configuration window, you will be presented
with a zip file to download that contains all of the resulting Brandfx Flowcharts.
- If your selections contain more than 500 items across all requested vehicles,
you must scale back your selections before generating the Brandfx Flowchart.
- The Brandfx Reader can create a Flowchart with a maximum of 850 rows. If your Flowchart
will contain more than 850 rows, you will be prompted to scale back your selections.

Using the Brandfx Viewer
- By default Brandfx displays weekly GRPs within each flight. If your report
includes only units and/or expenditures the flights will initially appear blank.
- You can select what you want to display above, inside, and below each flight.
To display units or expenditures:
- By default Brandfx displays the first demo selected. If you request more than one
the others are ignored.
• Highlight the flight(s)
- GRP flights per week do not include decimals (the values are truncated),
and therefore a manual sum of the flights may not equal the total GRP column.
- By default Brandfx displays a 52-week flow. If you request a shorter date range,
the flow will still include 52 weeks but the end weeks will be blank.
- If the date range of your flowchart request includes dates prior to the earliest
activity for the reported brands, these dates will be ignored. The report will begin
with the earliest activity available (within your requested date range) and then the
following 52 weeks.
• Right-click and
select Flight Properties
• Click the Display tab
• Change the Inside value to
Total Cost or Total Units
• Click OK
- If you are more comfortable working with Excel, you can click the Open in Excel
toolbar button to display the flowchart in Microsoft Excel.
Nationalized GRPs
To generate a report with market-by-market detail, for all markets, and nationalized GRPs, select the National market and Spot TV.
For this scenario, GRPs are calculated based on the Total US universe estimate. Even though you can see individual markets in the
Flowchart, the GRPs will be nationalized.
If you request National Market and Spot TV
Media Type, your Spot TV GRPs will be
Nationalized, even if all markets are displayed.

Local GRPs
To generate a report with market-by-market detail and local GRPs, select the individual markets and Spot TV.
For this scenario, GRPs are calculated based on the universe estimate for each selected market.
To properly display market-by-market Spot TV
GRPs, request and display all Markets.
If you request all Markets but don’t display them,
the GRPs will be incorrectly summed together.
- Selecting National versus a local market does not affect how units and dollars are presented on the report.
- Total Day will be reported for all TV media unless individual dayparts are selected. Regardless of selection,
Syndicated TV will report Total Day because daypart breakouts are not applicable to this media type.
- The Flowchart Link allows you to select GRPs on a report that also includes media types for which
audience data is not reported. GRPs are reported for only those media types where they are applicable.
- Selecting a custom brand and the option to break out components will individually report each brand within the group.
- Custom Market Groups are treated as if you had requested individual markets, so if you use a Custom
Market Group, you MUST display ‘Market’ in your flowchart or the GRPs will be incorrectly summed.
