Eco flush tank,
past and future
INNOVATION FIRST
AND FOREMOST

Innovation and initiative are the wealth of our country, the factors that have favoured a steady growth
for Italy ever since the '50s. The arts and crafts
culture, later to become industrial, contributed to
transmit the values and know-how that enabled
our country to invent and export all over the world
stylish, intelligent and useful products. The worldwide famous “Made in Italy” mark does not stand
just for style and design but also top value and
perfect functioning. In times as difficult as the ones
we are currently experiencing, worth mentioning is
a small/great invention promoted by Pucci, namely
the two-button flush tank. Over 20 years have by
now passed since the first Pucci eco; today such an
advanced idea is still quite relevant and keeps us
focused upon the fact that innovation is our future.
2011 Wordl Water Week
Celebration
The World Water Week Celebration held in Stockholm
has reaffirmed the fact that
the water issue is fundamental for all countries.
95% of the world population
growth is concentrated on
urban areas and as a consequence the competition
between the civil, industrial,
agricultural and energetic
exploitation of the water resources is bound to increase more and more. The
final statement has pointed
out that the central factors
of the Green Economy are
water, energy, food and
their interconnections.
Determinant goals are: a
more efficient use of water
in agriculture and energy
supply; recycling and depuration along with reduction
of water pollution and reduction of waste in distribution and consumption.

ECO LEADS THE
WAY
In 2050, 9 bilion people on the Earth will
need twice the water consumed today.
New PUCCI plate with double flush push-button.
Today we take this opportunity for granted: which flush button
should I push? But it hasn't always been like this… Back in the
90s water was considered an unlimited resource available at
a very low cost, to be used and wasted as much as we liked.
Consumption reduction, recycling, environment sustainability
were concepts we didn't conceive as essential, though they
slowly started to emerge. Pucci however has always considered water a precious resource. Right from the beginning
the company's mission has been to enable bathroom users
to rationally exploit water in the name of hygiene and comfort.

At the end of the 80s, way ahead of time, the idea of a double
push-button tank started to take form. This innovative project
was born from the awareness that water is our most valuable resource, a limited asset which cost is destined to increase more and more in time. Pucci has asked itself a simple
question: how much water can we save everyday by flushing
only the necessary water? Almost 50%! The first eco tanks,
promoted by a press campaign which justly defines water as
“blue gold”, open the way to all the other double push-button
models which would have conquered the marked from then on.

water for industrial use
water for domestic use
All, or almost all, individuals and institutions have finally understood that it is essential to save natural resources, increase renewable energy sources, recycle as much as possible.
The new products and technologies can be successful only
if consumption is strongly reduced and an intelligent use of
the resources both civil and industrial is encouraged. It must be pointed
out that fresh water on our planet is only 1% of the total. Rationally it
would be sufficient for the entire human race but pollution and climatic
phenomena reduce its availability. 70% is used in agriculture, 20% for
industry and 10% for domestic use. In the world 2.5 billion of people do
not have sanitary fittings. Even in Italy water is rationed in many areas..

PUCCI®, eco® montaggio RAPIDO
The eco tank, which has just turned twenty, is more than ever relevant, both because it reduces domestic water consumption costs
and because of the awareness that an intelligent consumption of
natural resources has become part of the collective conscience. Eco
has constantly renewed itself through the years adjusting to the ever
new demands coming from installers and consumers. The exposed
eco has been added to the various versions of the traditional built-in
tank. The eco tank is also available in the Montaggio Rapido version,
one of the innovations that met with great success. Rapido is a suspended bowl with pre-assembled tank, which enables a rapid and
efficient installation while also saving several litres of water every day!

renewable energy resources versus Italy's
energy requirements;
value in Euros of the renewable
energy sources
The future of our planet depends upon inexhaustible, less polluting and environment-friendly renewable resources. The constantly growing business turnover produced by this sector would furthermore have a positive impact on the economy. By increasing
the use of renewable resources Italy would be able to cut down
on imports of oil and gas and reduce the resulting heavy costs .
In Italy the renewable energy sources currently satisfy about 26% of the national demand. A
break-down thereof shows that 18% is generated
by hydroelectric power plants while the remaining
8% is generated by all other renewable sources..

domus, september 2011
In 2010 the total value of the renewable energy market in
Italy was estimated to be around 21 Billion Euros. Solar
energy accounts for over 11 billion, hydroelectric energy for 4.5 billion, wind power energy is worth about 2.6
billion, production from biomasses ranges around 1.8
billion and the output from the geothermal sector is estimated at 500 million. The solar power sector, with 3000 MW installed in 2010, shows the strongest growth
has suffered a decrease. Governmental incentives, which, according to the
analysts, were reinvested with positive
results, have contributed to the noticeable increase enjoyed by the solar power. The most important goals set by
the EU are: green energy, sustainable mobility, energy efficiency.

PRO AND CONS OF
SOLAR ENERGY
As everybody knows Italy is the “Paese del Sole” (Land of the Sun)”,
but the world leader in the production of solar energy is Germany.
By 2011 the production of solar energy in Italy will reach 12000
MW with 350,000 installations. This year we have realised the
world greatest increase in solar energy production. Puglia is the
region with the highest number of solar power plants with Veneto following right behind. It is actually in Verona
where one of the three most important world
Exhibition dedicated to the Green Economy and
energy sustainability is held every year in May.

Sicily has been identified by the EU together with Southern France and Spain as privileged location for solar energy production.
Houses and industrial plants with solar panels are proliferating
all over the world but, according to many critics, it is just a way
to receive the incentives! It is not just a matter of aesthetics as
much as the exploitation of extensive areas taken over to produce energy, areas that are later abandoned and the energy wasted.
And so welcome be renewable energy sources as long as they enable us to inhabit this planet with dignity and only if supported by two
other just as fundamental activities: recycling and waste reduction.

INTELLIGENT
TECHNOLOGIES
An ultra-quiet vacuum cleaner that follows the user step by step, turns itself
on only “when necessary” and stops
working every time the user stops. A
refrigerator equipped with a system
that reads the expiry date of food and
a filter that prevents the formation of
germs and mildew. An ironing board
that inflates with hot air and makes it
easier and effortless to iron even the
most difficult garments. A coffee pot
(naturally Italian) by which one can
make coffee and also hot chocolate;
a self-cleaning coffee pot to boot!

In the photos, new products at IFA 2011.
All of the above is not just wishful thinking; they are real products presented to
the public at the IFA,
the most important
European Exhibition
dedicated to Consumption Electronics and Household
Appliances held in
Berlin at the end of August every year.
This year more than ever the various
items proposed were aimed at reducing
consumption of electricity and water, making them easier to use and increasing
household comfort. New materials, such
as crystal, wood and leather, were presented alongside the traditional ones, steam
is often used instead of water. In short
the key idea was intelligence applied to
reduce consumption. Among the most interesting items were washing machines
and dishwashers that would automatically connect to the assistance service, refrigerators that produce cold during the time
periods when electricity is less expensive
and “pause” during the more expensive.
