SSI Coaches manual 9-5-12 - North Babylon Patriot Soccer

NORTH BABYLON PATRIOT SOCCER CLUB
INTERLEAGUE/SSI COACHES MANUAL
2012-2013
NORTH BABYLON PATRIOT SOCCER CLUB INTERLEAGUE RULES & REGULATIONS
North Babylon Patriot Soccer Club participates in Suffolk Soccer Interleague in order to field intramural
teams for non-travel players age U9 through U19 and allows the club to offer teams to players past the
traditional Bantam division of U11. The following rules and regulations are aimed at defining the
Interleague division and as a guide for teams playing in SSI.
With the exception of the U9 Tournament Teams, SSI coaches do not go through a selection process
similar to tournament or travel coaches. To volunteer to be an SSI coach, please contact the Club’s SSI
Coordinator, Mike Mullen at [email protected] or the Coaching Coordinator, Chrissy Centrone
at [email protected].
SSI rules & regulations are in the back of this manual and discuss procedures for out-of-town play,
sportsmanship and general SSI rules
SSI TEAMS
1) All players registered for SSI will be placed on a team as long as there are enough players in a
particular age group.
2) SSI teams are in-house teams and therefore DO NOT stay constant from one year to the next.
While all efforts will be made to keep players on the same team each seasonal year, players will
be moved if necessary to fulfill roster obligations
3) If necessary, players will be placed in an age group one-level older to fulfill roster obligations,
with older players being moved up first
4) SSI roster sizes are unlimited, however, game sides are as follows:
a. U9/U10: 8v8
b. U11 and up: 11v11
5) U9 Tournament teams and U11 teams play on Saturdays, all others play on Sunday
UNIFORMS
6) SSI Teams will wear the Patriot Soccer Club in-house uniform. Teams as a whole can agree to get
the Patriot SSI uniform (previous Travel uniforms) at an additional cost per player
PLAYING TIME
7) All SSI players, in good standing, are guaranteed a minimum playing time of ½ of the games
duration.
a. It is stipulated that occasions may arise where every player on a roster will not get onehalf playing time. In those events, said players should have playing time increased in
future games. If players are denied one-half playing time on a continuous basis, the SSI
coordinator will evaluate this situation and make recommendations
b. Players deemed in good standing are those players who regularly attend practice and
games, are not disruptive and is respectful of teammates and coaches
TRAINING
8) Challenger trainers will be assigned to SSI teams beginning with younger to older teams. The
number of teams receiving Challenger Trainers depends on hourly availability. U9 Tournament
teams will automatically receive Challenger Trainers
SET-UP/TAKE DOWN
9) Set-up/Take Down rules apply the same as In-house and Travel
PAPERWORK
10)
11)
12)
13)

All players are required to have a valid player pass, laminated with a current photograph
Player passes and US Club team rosters are required at all games
Coaches and Assistant Coaches are required to submit to US Club Risk Management
Game Summary Reports should be filled out after every game
One of the missions of SSI is to feed players into our Travel Program. SSI players should be
encouraged to tryout for their age-appropriate Travel Team. SSI players who “guest play” for a
travel team will NOT be held to the “guest player tryout rule” (See Travel Coaches Manual)
GUEST PLAYERS
15) SSI players can “guest play” for another SSI team for seasonal games, as long as:
a. The are a player in good standing
b. They are an age appropriate player, meaning that they cannot “play down” an age group
c. The guest player’s existing coach approves the guest play
d. Guest player’s passes and medical release forms are required
e. Guest players are used to supplement a roster and their playing time does not usurp a
rostered player’s playing time
f. Players cannot “guest play” if the game time conflicts with their existing team’s
schedule
TOURNAMENTS/LEAGUES
16) U9-U11 non-tournament SSI teams are permitted to attend three(3) indoor and one(1) outdoor
SSI sanctioned tournaments (found on the SSI website). U9-U11 non-tournament SSI teams are
not permitted to play in Winter Leagues
17) U12 and above SSI teams are permitted to participate in Winter Leagues and tournaments, with
prior Executive Board approval
18) SSI teams participating in Winter Leagues are NOT covered by the Club’s supplemental
insurance because leagues are not sanctioned by ENYYSA
19) Non-tournament SSI teams will be given Winter gym only if there is available space after the
travel, tournament and special training sessions are allotted time. Requests for gym time must
be submitted to be considered for available spaces

SSI TO TRAVEL
21) At U13, an SSI team may either stay in SSI or participate in our Travel Soccer program, with prior
Executive Board approval. The following rules apply to teams wishing to join the travel program:
a. Executive Board approval is required. All parents from the SSI team must acknowledge
that they wish to go travel and understand the procedures and additional
costs/commitment that may be required. Parent Consent letters are to be written by
the individual coaches and approved by the SSI Coordinator before they are sent to
parents
b. All age-eligible players must tryout for the existing travel team before a tryout for
second travel team (former SSI team) is held
c. The existing travel team must have the sufficient number of players to field a team
before an SSI team is permitted to go travel
d. The newly formed second travel team MUST hold a tryout and all current players on
that team must be taken on the travel roster (as long as they wish to play travel soccer)
e. SSI teams going travel must purchase the Patriot Soccer travel uniform and follow all
travel rules & regulations
U9 TOURNAMENT TEAMS
22) One U9 boys and U9 girls SSI team will be deemed a tournament team. Tournament team
coaches are chosen by the same procedures as travel coaches – submitting your name for
consideration at the April general meeting. The U9 tournament teams are required to hold a
tryout. This is the only situation where an SSI team will have a tryout. Unlike our U7 & U8
tournament teams, the U9 team will play as a team throughout the seasonal year. Tournament
teams are as follows:
a. U9 Tournament team coaches and players are NOT guaranteed a spot on the upcoming
U10 travel team. Coaches interested in being a travel coach must submit their names for
consideration and players must tryout for the new travel team
b. U9 tournament teams are NOT allowed, under any circumstances to purchase/wear the
travel uniform
c. U9 tournament teams are allowed to participate in tournaments and winter leagues.
Coaches must notify the SSI Coordinator what tournaments/leagues they are
participating in (Also, see Rule #14 regarding insurance)
d. Tournament team rosters are in place for the entire seasonal year and cannot be altered
for any reason other than a parental request
e. Players in good standing are guaranteed a minimum of 1/3 playing time. For the
definition of a player in good standing, please see rule 7B
f. Tournament teams have the option of purchasing club-provided jerseys to avoid
duplicate jersey numbers. These jerseys are only for the U9 tournament team
23) After the Fall SSI season, an U9 tournament team three options:
a. Stay in the U9 tournament team SSI division they are currently playing in
b. Play-up to the SSI U10 tournament division if you are seeking stronger competition
