‘Creative and interesting ways to
develop and practise our language skills’.
Philosophy
As the great philosopher Aristotle said, philosophy is to learn how to flourish, or to blossom, or to be good at
being human. These courses are very practical and will allow you to explore the historical background and the
best approach to help improve your health and wellbeing. You will explore the relationship between the mind,
consciousness and spirit in a very hands on way. Be prepared to learn something very different that will be helpful to
you on a daily basis.

Can I get help with
my fees?
Time Credits
Fee remission
For some courses you may be entitled to pay a
reduced fee. The remitted fee for the majority of
courses is £15. Courses with a higher remission fee
are marked with Y in this brochure.
Fee remission is available to learners on the following
active benefits:
• Job Seekers Allowance (JSA).
•Employment Support Allowance (ESA) Work
Related Activity Group (WRAG) element only.
• Learners on other benefits may qualify for
reduction or remission of fees through the service’s
Financial Assistance Fund. Please enquire when
enrolling.
• Eligible learners can attend a maximum of two fee
remitted courses each year and must show proof
of their benefits at enrolment.
Refund policy
Refunds can be requested up to 10 working days
before the start date of the course.
A £20 administration fee will be charged. If the course
fee was less than £20 (or if the learner paid the £15
remitted fee) then the full course fee will be forfeited,
but no further administration fee will be payable.
Examination fees are not refundable.
More information about all Lancashire Adult Learning
policies can be found in the About Us section of our
website www.lancashire.gov.uk/adultlearning
Financial Assistance Fund

fees is entitled to apply for help from the Lancashire

Fund, please contact 0300 123 6711.

You can also pay for courses using Lancashire Time
Credits. Time Credits are a way of enabling local
people to make a difference in their communities and
to local public services.
If a person gives one hour of time to a participating
community organisation, they earn one time credit.
That credit can then be spent on a range of activities
in the local area, for example on a course, a museum
visit, a physiotherapy session or a show at the local
theatre.
Time credits are similar in design to bank notes but
have no monetary value. Anyone can earn them, and
everyone’s time is always worth the same: an hour
equals an hour. They can be spent on a variety of
courses in Chorley and the surrounding area. Please
note an additional charge will be applied for courses
which carry an exam fee or material costs.
To find out more visit: www.chorley.gov.uk and search
for ‘time credits’.
