The Treaty of Greenville Assignment
Instructions:
1.) You are to read the Treaty of Greenville and use the map below to draw the boundary line created by the
treaty. The treaty here is exactly how it was written following the Battle of Fallen Timbers in 1795.
2.) Once you are finished, draw in the states that would eventually be created from this area. Also, in Ohio, put a
star where Cincinnati, Cleveland, and Columbus would be.
3.) Label which area belongs to Americans and which area belongs to Native Americans.
4.) Make your map colorful!
The Treaty of Greenville states that the boundary line should be placed:
“The general boundary line between the lands of the United States, and the lands of the said Indian tribes, shall begin at the
mouth of the Cayahoga River (river) and run thence up the same to the portage between that and the Tuscara was branch of
the Muskingum; thence down that branch to the crossing place above Fort Lawrence; thence westerly to a fork of that branch
of the great Miami River running into the Ohio, at or near which fork stood Loromie's store, and where commences the
portage between the Miami of the Ohio, and the St. Mary's River, which is a branch of the Miami, which runs into Lake Erie;
thence a westerly course to Fort Recovery, which stands on a branch of the Wabash; then south-westerly in a direct line to the
Ohio, so as to intersect that river opposite the mouth of the Kentucky or Cuttawa River. The said Indian tribes do hereby cede
and relinquish forever, all their claims to the lands lying eastwardly and southwardly of the general boundary line now
described; and these lands, or any part of them be made....

“The general boundary line between the lands of the United States, and the lands of the Indian tribes, shall begin at the mouth
of the Cuyahoga River and run south to Fort Lawrence on the Tuscarawas River. From there, head west to the Great Miami
River, which runs into the Ohio. You should be at Loromie's Store. Then, travel on a north-west course to Fort Recovery,
which stands on a branch of the Wabash River. Finally, head south-west in a direct line to the Ohio. The Indian tribes do
hereby give up all their claims to the lands lying to the east and to the south of the general boundary line now described.
