From Fr. Don Woznicki
It has been a little over 45 days since I have stepped into the “captain’s” chair of this
“bark of Peter” (ship), called Christ the King, to help keep her steady in all the good
work you do. God the Father has also entrusted into my heart the desire and charge
of evangelization – To deepen the faith of us who frequently traverse the decks of
CTK, and also reach those who may have fallen overboard, and to sail into new and
unchartered territories to bring the Good News of Jesus Christ.
You might have heard me say before that this place (this ship), in particular, God
has a special plan. God has placed CTK is some very interesting waters with a
unique mission here in Hancock Park/Hollywood. In addition to our own personal voyage through rough
seas, our ship travels in the same waters with one of the most power ships in the world – Hollywood! We
must not let that overwhelm or intimidate us. I have already seen and meet many devout, talented, and
humble people that make up our faith community – and with that, especially a humble faith (like the
Virgin Mary), “All things are possible with God!”
St. Paul, to the early church in Corinth: “Consider your own calling, brothers. Not many of you
were wise by human standards, not many were powerful, not many were of noble birth. Rather,
God chose the foolish of the world to shame the wise, and God chose the weak of the world to
shame the strong, and God chose the lowly and despised of the world, those who count for
nothing, to reduce to nothing those who are something, so that no human being might boast*
before God. It is due to him that you are in Christ Jesus, who became for us wisdom from God,
as well as righteousness, sanctification, and redemption, so that, as it is written, “Whoever
boasts, should boast in the Lord.” [1 Cor. 26-31]
My brothers and sisters in Christ, I (we) have much work to do to keep our ship steady and moving
forward. But it will be essential we do our work anchored with trust in the Merciful Heart of Jesus and
Immaculate Heart of Mary (Star of the Sea – who guides the ship through the waters of evangelization),
and we do our work in unity as a community of faith, bringing our talents and gifts together.
UPCOMING EVENTS TO PLAN FOR AND BE A PART OF
Having said this above, CTK is planning for some important and exciting upcoming events this Fall that
will help set sail to our ship as we embark on a new journey. The individual and collective efforts and
participation of each one of you will make a voyage a success!
September 10th & 11th (Saturday & Sunday): The 11th So. Cal. Congress of Divine Mercy —
which will feature some great speakers, sacraments, and reflection to grow in your understanding
of God’s Merciful Love and how to put that into practice!
September 24th (Saturday): The San Gennaro Festival – Mass & Procession down Hollywood
Blvd. Your participation and presence at the Mass and Procession will be huge in promoting our
parish, school, and fostering a Catholic identity to this unique opportunity where Hollywood, the
secular community, and the Catholic Church (particularly CTK Parish) intersect.
November 13th/20th: 90th Anniversary Fundraiser & Special Celebration of Christ the King
Feast Day and closing of the Holy Doors. This will be a great opportunity to celebrate our
unity (past and present) and begin to pool together our resources for future growth.
I leave you with a blessing from St. Paul, “To the church of God that is in Corinth (Hancock Park/
Hollywood), to you who have been sanctified in Christ Jesus, called to be holy, with all those
everywhere who call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours. Grace to
you and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ.” [1 Cor 1:2-3]

Dear Jesus, Divine Physician and Healer of the sick, we turn
to You in this time of illness.
O dearest comforter of the troubled, alleviate our worry and
sorrow with Your gentle love, and grant us the grace and
strength to accept this burden.
Dear God, we place our worries in Your hands.
We ask that You restore Your servant to health again. Above
all, grant us the grace to acknowledge Your holy will and
know that, whatsoever You do, You do for the love of us.
Amen.

Ensuring Your Child’s School Is Safe
Every teacher, coach, and volunteer who works with
children in the archdiocese’s parishes and schools
must have a background check before he or she is
permitted to work in any school- or parish-related job
or activity that involves contact with children. But
what about the children who attend non-Catholic
private or public schools? Talk with school
administrators and find out what steps they take to
protect children from harm. Suggest that they review
other abuse prevention programs to ensure that their
policies and practices are up to date. And demand that
all employees and volunteers who work in the school
be properly screened, including background checks,
before they are allowed to be near your children. For
more information, please call the Archdiocesan
Safeguard the Children office: 213 637 7227.
For particular help, you may call Assistance Ministry
at 213 637 7650.
Jesus is waiting for you in the
Blessed Sacrament.
Come and spend some time with Him

First Fridays from 9AM to 9PM
DISCIPLINE
It is no accident that the words “disciple” and “discipline”
are nearly identical. Their relationship in Christian faith and
life, however, has fallen somewhat out of favor in the past
generation, as certain prescribed Church rules and
regulations have been reduced and relaxed. These rules were
often referred to as “disciplines.” We are mistaken, however,
to think that it no longer takes discipline to follow Christ.
The Letter to the Hebrews assures us of that today. Our
discipline is more like that of an athlete pursuing a victory or
a personal best, or a musician striving for a concert career or
to master a new piece of music. This discipline comes from
desire, not from regulations. It was the desire to do the will
of God that led Jesus on the path to his cross. It is that same
desire he encourages in us today: to strive to enter through
the narrow gate, to find ourselves in the kingdom with a
surprising assortment of people who are there not because of
mere observation of rules, but out of a genuine desire to
recline at the table of the heavenly banquet.

WORTHY TEACHERS
All who undertake to teach must be endowed with deep
love, the greatest patience, and, most of all, profound
humility. The Lord will find them worthy to become fellow
workers with him in the cause of truth.

Asegúrese Que La Escuela de Sus
Hijos Sea Segura
