Junior Honors Reading 2016

JUNIOR HONORS 2016/5776
Dear Rising Junior Honors,
We know summer is a time for you to relax, recharge, and enjoy your hard-earned vacation, but we also want you to use your time productively. Therefore, we are requiring
students to read TWO books of your choice from the list below. You are to complete a
vocabulary log for one book (see example below), which will be due the first day back
at school. For your second book you are to complete a yearbook entry, which is also
due the first day back in class. During your first week at school your English teacher will
be assigning an in-class writing assignment on your books, so be prepared!
Remember: both the vocabulary log and the yearbook is due on the first day of class. In
addition, we are including an additional recommended reading list from which you may
select books to read for your pleasure.
Students need not like or agree with everything they read. Sometimes a book that provokes dissent is as stimulating as a book that echoes our own thoughts. Our hope is that
your summer reading will engage your minds, stimulate thought and help you to clarify
and become more comfortable with your individual and unique perspectives on life.
Best wishes for a healthy and productive summer.
Sincerely,
Mica Bloom

you will create: nickname of character; activities, clubs, sports they were in; class mock
award such as “class clown”; quotation that shows something about the person and what is
important to him or her; a book that has had a great impact on him or her; best songs; voted
