Hello ATD ICE 2016 Attendees!
We’re glad you’re here, and hope you get great value from our time together.
Today’s session is “Genghis Khan Never Used Webinars But He Would Have: why
technology is only part of the answer for remote teams today
In today’s remote and wired business world, organizations and the people in
them must learn to use new technology, not only to stay connected, but as a way
to utilized the timeless skills of team building and leadership.
In this kit, you’ll find three assessment sheets which will allow you and your
people to quickly assess their remote teams in three areas: Task Completion,
Working Relationships and Communication. Feel free to use them and share
them with your colleagues. They come from our How Leaders Create and Manage
Remote Teams workshop.
If you are struggling with finding ways to help develop the leadership,
communication and presentation skills your people need to use these tools
effectively, we’d love to be of assistance.
Reach us any time at +1 630 541 9154 or at www.remoteleadershipinstitute.com
Enjoy the conference, learn a lot, and let us know how we can be of assistance to
you and your organization.
Sincerely
W Wayne Turmel and the Remote Leadership Institute Team

Do You, Your Team or Your Organization Face These 3
Communication Challenges?
1) Virtual teams and meetings are a fact of life, but online meetings don’t
engage participants, lack interaction and aren’t productive



There are over 20 million webmeetings or virtual conferences a day held in the US on dozens of
different platforms including Lync©, WebEx©, GoToMeeting© and others
Studies show that over 2/3 of that time is considered wasted
Money saved in travel and other costs is lost in poor quality work, unproductive teams and
inefficient project communication
2) Managers struggle to maintain productive working relationships with
remote or virtual employees




Over half of managers say that managing remote workers and team members is harder than
managing those who share a workplace
Most managers report lower levels of trust with their remote employees
Most report that coaching and managing performance is more challenging
Many organizations discover tension and miscommunication between teleworkers and those
who work from a central location
3) People don’t use the presentation and collaboration tools at their disposal,
or don’t use them poorly



More than 70% of users use fewer than 25% of the features of products like WebEx©, Adobe
Connect©, Skype for Business© & other online presentation platforms
80% of people who present online, do so for the first time with an audience increasing
discomfort and resistance
Even experienced “live” presenters find they are less effective and much less comfortable in an
online environment and have much less impact

Session #5........Remote Goal Setting & Accountability
As a leader you know that helping your team member set goals - and then
holding them accountable for those goals is part of your job. But more
than that, it is critical to your success. Doing these things can be
challenging in any setting, but when you are leading virtually, and not
interacting or seeing your team members (and their work product)
everyday, it is even more challenging. This session takes the principles of
goal setting, supporting goal achievement and accountability and applies
them to the unique challenges of doing it all at a distance.
Session #6........Effective Remote Coaching and Feedback
This session takes the principles of effective coaching and feedback and
applies them to the unique challenges of doing it at a distance. This is a
highly interactive session allowing participants to not only learn the
principles and skills but get their specific questions answered. Participants
will leave with the workshop handouts and checklists and tools help them
succeed in their coaching opportunities.
Session #7........Wrap-Up Session
The series concludes the way it begins – with you, Kevin and Wayne
together to tie up the loose ends, solidify your knowledge, answer your
questions and basically be your coach. You and your cohort of learners
will have the chance to pick the brains of Wayne and Kevin, and they will
share their latest thinking and lessons on all things related to leading
remotely.
