Poetry Blocks
You will need to ask your Mum or Dad to help you with this activity!
Ideas:
When writing a rhyming poem, try
and rhyme lines with a similar ending
sound. But remember, a poem is
whatever you want it to be, it doesn’t
have to rhyme. Choose a theme,
close your eyes and use your
imagination. Why not play a game
with your friends or family and let
each person write a line or a verse.

Example
Here is an example of a Digger poem - have a go
at finishing it off or make up your own.
Use the blank poetry blocks (on the next page) to
write your own words in, cut them out and stick them
down as your poem on a blank sheet of paper - you
could also use your weekly spellings or some of the
other words provided over the next few pages!
