Mike Hanback: Ohio Bowhunter Finds 5-Year-Old Shed from 186-Inch Buck He Killed in 2006! Ohio Bowhunter Finds 5-Year-Old Shed from 186-Inch Buck He Killed in 2006! Posted At : April 14, 2011 10:38 AM | Posted By : Mike Hanback Related Categories: Big Deer Blog From Ohio bowhunter/shed hunter Chad Moore: Mike: After reading your post last month about the guy in Virginia who found the drop-tine shed 2 years after he shot that big buck, I am in disbelief because of what happened to me the other day. March 14 I went out looking for sheds after work. Parked the truck, got out and started walking down a path I have walked many times before. I got no more than 30 yards from the vehicle and noticed a large deer trail coming from the left. I looked down and lying right in the middle of the trail was this HUGE shed antler. I don't know how it wasn't spotted by someone until now. I picked it up and realized it was not from this year--it had moss on it and some hairline cracking, but overall was very solid. This thing weighed 4 lbs. I took it back to lock it in the truck, almost hyperventilating from the excitement of the moment. I got to thinking, this shed looks very familiar....damn familiar. It can't be.... I went home and held it up to my 2006 bow kill (you did a story on the 186” drop tine back in your Outdoor Life days) and sure as heck it’s the 2005 shed off this deer! It's almost a clone to the right side! There is alittle bump on the shed antler in the exact spot where the drop tine grew the following year. This shed had been lying in this spot for 5 years, unbelievable! It was on high ground in some tall weeds, but had been exposed this year due to the snow. No animals had chewed it. It as w less than a mile from the location I killed the deer in 2006, and only 40 yards off the road! The antler has 25” of mass measurements, 11 scoreable points and scores 82.” The timing on these 2 shed stories (Virginia and Ohio) is absolutely incredible to me as I can’t ever remember hearing of such a thing. Finding years-old sheds the same spring from two 180-class bucks killed is amazing! I was able to get the 2005 left shed from a local guy who found it years ago. I am having these antlers refurbished and repaired and having a shoulder mount done with them.—Thanks, Chad Moore Cool. Chad will have back-to-back shoulder mounts of his big deer, the one he shot and one with the previous year’s rack, Mike Hanback: Ohio Bowhunter Finds 5-Year-Old Shed from 186-Inch Buck He Killed in 2006! framed up the same and 20-plus inches smaller.comment
