WELCOME!
It’s the beginning of a whole new era
here at the Civic. After seventeen
years we’ve said our sad farewells to
the incomparable Bríd Dukes who
led the theatre with such distinction
from the first moment the doors
opened back in 1999. I’m sure you
will join me in wishing her a happy
and long retirement - her garden will
certainly be greener for her year round
presence!
I’m honoured now to step into her
mighty shoes and lead this great local
theatre. I’ve a whole heap of plans
and ambitions but for now I want you
to know we will never lose sight of
our core values - offering the warmest
of welcomes and a personal touch
second to none, along with a host of
great nights that bring joy, wonder,
tears and laughter week in week out.
All the world’s a stage said the great
man and as ever your local theatre
provides a full range of enriching
experience. So whether you love
drama or music, comedy or dance,
tuck into our new season brochure and what a feast we have for you; so
many highlights that I am hard pressed
to pick my favourites though I will
sprinkle some thoughts through the
pages ahead - look out for this sign:
As ever we need and value your
support - by buying a ticket or two you
will help keep things live and local!

Ireland’s world renowned Druid theatre
company comes to the Civic to present

THE PILLOWMAN
Written by Martin McDonagh
Directed by Andrew Flynn
Presented by Decadent Theatre
Decadent Theatre’s Irish premiere of The
Pillowman, by internationally-acclaimed
author Martin McDonagh (writer and
director of feature films In Bruges and
Seven Psychopaths), earned rave reviews
on its first nation-wide tour in 2015.
When stories become gruesome reality,
surely it can only be the author who is
to blame? An interrogation room. Two
police officers are determined to make
a young writer pay the ultimate price for
telling tales, when it transpires that the
content of some of his short stories bear
an uncanny similarity to horrific
real-life crimes.
Winner of the Olivier Award for Best
Play, the Evening Standard Award for
Best New Play and two Tony Awards, The
Pillowman has taken the West End and
Broadway by storm.

THE NUALAS
GLITTERBOMB TOUR
Co
The Nualas are celebrating their 21st
birthday. Over the years they’ve played
extended seasons in London, Dublin and
New York, written and recorded several
series for BBC Radio 4, split up and got
back together again, whilst clocking
up innumerable TV appearances, and
even met Chris de Burgh in the flesh.
Now, with scorchingly brilliant new
songs, red hot new chat and blistering
new shoes, they’re jetting in for one
night only to leave you helpless with
laughter, delirious with pleasure, and a
little disorientated if you can’t remember
which door you came in.
