National Girls High Performance Indoor Programs Physical Testing Procedures The following is an explanation of the various tests conducted at USAV High Performance National Program sites including the National Teams, National A2 Teams, Junior National Teams, Youth National Teams, National High Performance Camps, USA Development Camps, USA Recruiting Combine, and Regional Development Camps. Height: Ensuring that both heels are secured on the floor, the measurement is made with a straight instrument horizontally bridged to the measure tape or similar. Measurements are to the nearest half inch. Block Jump: While standing with both feet stationed directly under a Vertec (or similar measuring device), the athlete jumps (without the use of any approach or rocker step) for height and touches with 1 hand as high as possible on the measure tape or similar. Record the better of 2 attempts. Measurements are to the nearest half inch. The athlete must touch the highest mark with one hand for the measurement to be counted. Approach Jump Off 2 Feet: By utilizing a normal spike approach, the athlete jumps (using a 2 foot take off) for height and touches with 1 hand as high as possible on the measure tape or similar. The better of 2 attempts is recorded. Measurements are to the nearest half inch. Shuttle Run: Using a regulation 9 meter wide volleyball court, place a 1 foot long strip of tape, perpendicular to the net, bisecting the base line (4.5 meters from the sideline). This tape line constitutes the starting position. The athlete assumes a defensive position straddling the tape line facing the net and touches the line with a hand. When the athlete and timer are ready, the athlete begins with a crossover step toward the sideline to the athlete’s right (1). After the beginning crossover step, the athlete may run and touch the sideline with her right hand (2). Then run to the left sideline and touch that line with her left hand (3). They then run to the right sideline again and touch that line with their right hand (4), and then run to the left sideline and touch it with her left hand (5). The athlete finishes by running back through the original tape mark at 4.5 meters (6). The timer begins the “clock” when the athlete lifts her hand from the tape line and stops the clock when the cross over the line after touching both sidelines. Score should be the better of two attempts. Shuttle Run 4.5 M Serving 6 5 4 3 1 2 Serving: Each evaluator will evaluate groups of four players at a time. Instruct players to serve their serve most likely to get an ACE. Two players will serve at a time (G1). G1 will serve 4 balls in a row while G2 waits and feeds G1 balls. After 4 serves, G1 & G2 will change. Repeat the sequence for a total of 8 serve attempts per/athlete. As new players join the court for serving evaluation, they should come on to the opposite side to shag until their turn.
