Candidate’s Address:
It is humbling and a privilege to have received the nominations of so many branches in the
NEYH Region. Should your support lead to my election I will repay the faith you have shown
in me through hard work on your behalf.
I work at Firstbus in Sheffield the largest bus depot in the industry. I was first elected as
a Unite Shop-steward 10 years ago becoming Branch Chair and lead negotiator for South
Yorkshire CNC 4 year ago. In 2015 I was elected to the Regional Committee where I represent
workers within my sector.
I am seeking your support because I believe in:

Connecting with YOU the grassroots – If elected to the NEC I promise to listen to

union.
Growing our union – under Len McCuskey’s leadership Unite continues to be a
positive progressive force for our members. The leverage scheme and the £37million
strike fund are examples of what can be achieved when the NEC works alongside
our General Secretary. I remain committed to a union providing quality services and
advice for our membership.
Being a strong voice for our area – We have many tough challenges in our region.
Our major industries, steel and the auto industry are under constant attack. With
your support I will be a strong voice on the NEC, fighting to secure the futures of our
members and their families.
I am pleased to offer my support to Kate Osbourne who is standing for our region. Kate is a
very experienced member of the NEC with a track record of supporting our region and I look
forward to working closely with Kate if elected.

I have been a PROUD Trade Union Member for the last 27 years. I’m currently the full
time works convenor for Rolls-Royce in the North East. At present I sit on the Rolls-Royce
Executive Council for works and I’m also the Diversity and Inclusion Rep for works, I’m also
strong believer in Ethics.

I have been asked by a number of senior workplace reps to stand for election and feel proud
and honoured to do so. In my time as a Rep I have built up a good reputation of working on
behalf and in the best interests of my members and if elected will do so for the members
of our Region. I can assure you all I will not be afraid to question the General Secretary, EC
Council or any Senior Officers of matters of concern or importance to all members. I also
strongly believe that all elected council members should be independently minded with
integrity and the will to make sure that the council is ran fairly and on a sound footing. I
know that if elected there will be a lot of challenges ahead of me I can assure you I will face
them head on and represent our members to the best of my ability.
The Executive Council and Union need to have a strong correct framework, a framework
that offers advice and support to Reps and for those Reps who need advice and support we
need to make sure it’s the right advice and support. Anyone that doesn’t want to help that
person isn’t the right person for OUR UNION.
As a strong union rep I will do my best in campaigning for all my members

We need an effective Executive Council that is not controlled by the General Secretary
or his Executive Officers but by active Workplace Representatives putting our members’
subscriptions to best use for the members in the workplace and the industrial or political
challenges ahead.

Candidate’s Address:
Colleagues, as an elected representative for the past 19 years, I have played an active role in
various campaigns whether in my own sector, or, the wider movement, be that driving hours
campaigns, or, anti-austerity, or, defending the NHS. I currently chair the Passenger RISC
and have served on both the Regional Committee and the NISC.
We are presented with a multi-faceted assault on values we have worked hard to retain
or improve on, clearly equalities will be at the heart of this, as it is at the very core of this
union.
During the forthcoming executive period I will pursue a progressive agenda which has the
interests of the membership at its heart. I will work hard to make sure that Unite is a union
with values, which recognises the challenges we face at both work and home, spanning all
sectors, encompassing all members, ratifying dignity and respect in the workplace, indeed
everywhere.
