1. Using a stopwatch and a 90 foot track, how many seconds does it take you to run
90 feet?
2. It is 90 feet between the bases on a baseball diamond. Using your time to run 90
feet, how long would it take you to run around the bases and score an inside the
park home run?
3. Using a stopwatch and a target 60 feet 6 inches away, how many seconds does it
take the ball to reach the target when you throw it? (It’s 60 feet 6 inches from the
pitching rubber to home plate.)
Compare your time to a Major League Baseball pitcher who throws the ball 90
MPH. It would take less than 0.46 seconds for the ball to reach the target when he
throws it!
4. How fast is your pitch in feet per second?
(hint: set up a ratio)
60.5 feet

Fun Fact:
The fastest pitch ever recorded in a Major League Baseball games was thrown by Aroldis
Chapman in 2010. He threw the ball 105.1 MPH. Can you convert your
throwing speed from feet per second to miles per hour?
