Daily Reprieve
I will try to live
through this day only, and not tackle
my whole life problem at once. I can
do something for twelve hours that
would appall me if I felt that I had to
keep it up for a lifetime.
Step 12
“H
aving had a spiritual
awakening as the result of these steps, we
tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.”
ALCOHOLICS ANONYMOUS, P. 130
All the prayer and meditation in the
world will not help me unless they
are accompanied by action. Practicing the principles in all my affairs
shows me the care that God takes in
all parts of my life. God appears in
my world when I move aside, and
allow Him to step into it.
Daily Reflections p 367
Concept XII
Tradition 12
And finally, we of Alcoholics Anonymous believe that the principle of
anonymity has an immense spiritual
significance. It reminds us that we
are to place principles before personalities; that we are actually to
practice a genuine humility. This
to the end that our great blessings
may never spoil us; that we shall
forever live in thankful contemplation of Him who presides over us
all.

1. Why is it a good idea for me to place the common
welfare of all AA members before individual welfare? What would happen to me if AA as a whole
disappeared?
2. When I do not trust AA’s current servants, who do
I wish had the authority to straighten them out?
3. In my opinions of and remarks about other AAs,
am I implying membership requirements other
than a desire to stay sober?
4. Do I ever try to get a certain AA group to conform
to my standards, not its own?
To publish announcements of AA Birthdays
celebrated by members each month, send name
and number of years to: District 21, P.O. Box 58,

on the 2nd Thursday of every month
at the Michigan City Christian
Church at 11232 W. Earl Rd.
5. Have I a personal responsibility in helping an AA
group fulfill its primary purpose? What is my
part?
6. Does my personal behavior reflect the Sixth Tradition?
7. Do I do all I can do to support AA financially?
When is the last time I anonymously gave away a
Grapevine subscription?
8. Do I complain about certain AAs’ behavior-especially if they are paid to work for AA? Who made
me so smart?
9. Do I fulfill all AA responsibilities in such a way as
to please privately even my own conscience? Really?
10. Do my utterances always reflect the Tenth Tradition, or do I give AA critics real ammunition?

11. Should I keep my AA membership a secret, or reveal it in private conversation when that may help
another alcoholic (and therefore me)? Is my
brand of AA so attractive that other drunks want
it?
12. What is the real importance of me among more
than a million AAs?

The Indiana State Prison is interested in reviving the AA meetings at the Michigan City facility. For many years, local
AA members have assisted with this endeavor. The meetings inside the prison walls were discontinued several months
ago due to decreased activity by local AA members. These meetings are a valuable part of the pre-release needs of minimum security offenders.
All AA members who are interested in assisting in this project are required to participate in an orientation session. This
session is to take place on Wednesday, December 7, 2011 at 5:30 PM. It will be held at the Indiana State Prison, will
start at 5:30 PM and will last approximately 90 minutes to 2 hours. Attendance in the orientation is mandatory to participate in the AA meetings.
If you are interested in helping re-establish AA at the Indiana State Prison in Michigan City, please contact Ron S. at
219-877-4510. ISP requires a list of all orientation attendees to be submitted to them by Friday Dec 2. This is a great
opportunity for 12 Step Work.

Our local hotline number is now being forwarded to the cell phone. Brenda got 8 calls after removing the call
forwarding from the answering service. She will talk to the others that have volunteered to arrange passing the
phone between them.
Ron has talked to the prison and there are no meetings at the present time. There was a meeting, but it just
stopped. The prison is interested in resuming meetings. They suggested a 6:30 PM start time. Those interested
in volunteering would need to go through a 4 hour orientation and judicial background check. The next
orientation is scheduled for January. We will have more information at the next meeting. Ron suggested posting
a sign up sheet for volunteers. This is for the minimum security section. Most of the prisoners that would be
attending are required to attend.
Jennie H. contacted St. Anthony, Swanson Center and Health partners. She will be taking literature to those
interested. Steve H. contacted the Michigan City police department and is going to take them some literature.
The district is going to stock and sell AA literature for the local members and groups.
