The 2015-16 school year marks the beginning of the 3rd consecutive year of partnership

risk student population.
To date, Camelot has had the opportunity to
reengage
and serve over
5,300
students in the last three years. Camelot successfully transitions over 8 out of
10 students back to their traditional campus within 45 days.
TRANSITIONAL PROGRAM

“Meet Our Students”
Dominique Hicks
Senior
My name is Dominique Hicks and I am 18 years of age. I came from Worthing High School and
I am a senior. My first day at Beechnut Academy, I really didn’t like it at all. I had a lot going on
in my life and to be honest, I really did not know what to do. I was mad because I thought I was
not going to pass because of my missing credits but the Beechnut Academy faculty gave me a
lot of confidence and they pushed me hard to get all my credits back. So when I went through
the program at Beechnut Academy, I ended up becoming a leader for my peers because of my grades and behavior. I
became a straight ”A” student throughout the process and I thank God for every moment. Throughout my months at
Beechnut Academy, I can say that I have learned a lot of things from here and it is really a school that helps students
become better people.
I am really proud of myself because at first, I was exposed to some bad influences. Coming to Beechnut Academy, I
became part of the student government and became an “Executive”. I got into the “TAPS” program where I am able
to earn high school credit so I can graduate in December. My plan is to attend Texas Southern University in the Fall of
2016.
Thank you Beechnut Academy.
Diego Arzola
Senior
My name is Diego Arzola and I am 18 years old. I am a 2015 December
graduate from North Forest High School. This road has not been an easy
one for me. Last year, I was considered a high school dropout and I did not
want to come to school because I just wanted to work and make money. It
was not until I returned to Beechnut Academy and the staff encouraged me
to finish out my senior year that I got back on track. I am glad that I listened
to the staff. I was able to visit college campuses and the staff helped me
with my financial aid. I am proud to say that my goal is to enter Houston
Community College in the next school year.
Thanks to the Beechnut Staff.
Garyneisha Richard | 8th Grade
Student Government, Executive
Moving from school to school, a lot of things change. Friends change, family changes, and also my attitude. When I
moved to Key Middle School, it seemed like nothing could go right. All I did was fight and disrespect teachers. It was
the way I could blow off steam.
Until one day, a new teacher came. At first, I did not like her but then she started expressing the qualities she saw in
me. But, it was too late. My seventh grade principal handed me the papers to go to Beechnut Academy.
When I arrived at Beechnut Academy I thought I was going to hell on Earth. Once I got a pledge packet, everything
started to change for the better. My leadership skills increased and now I am the first executive in middle school and
the President of middle school’s Student Government. That has changed my attitude at home and school.
I find myself growing as an individual and in my personality itself. I think Beechnut Academy really does help kids.
After coming to Beechnut Academy, I know that I am somebody and that I can impact my community and this world
in a positive way.
Joe Lopez | 8th Grade
Student Government, Phoenix
I am fifteen years old. I came from Ortiz Middle School. The reason why I was sent to Beechnut Academy is because
I was under the influence of a narcotic. Ortiz sent me to Beechnut Academy for forty-five days. Even I thought I was
a disrespectful student. The following day I went to Beechnut Academy to enroll. Later that day I went to my class.
When I walked into my class there was a dead silence and I was the spotlight of the room. I immediately sat down.
The teacher gave me a warm welcome. After that everyone in the classroom started to talk to me. I never thought
making friends would be that easy. As weeks went by I became a pledge because of my good behavior! A week went
by and I completed my pledge packet; now I was ready to test to become a Phoenix! After being tested after a period
of time, I became a Phoenix! I was so proud of myself. As weeks and weeks went by I’m almost finished with all my
days. Beechnut Academy helped me change. I stopped disrespecting people and I stopped smoking. I’m very proud of
myself. After finishing my days of Beechnut Academy, I’m going to go back to school and attend some AP classes.

“I am so grateful that your academy is here, even if it is just for a short season. I know that my son and many young men and women that come through the doors of
your academy will ultimately be molded and shaped into successful business people we can all count on. Your school has really turned my son around. I just wanted to
say thank you.”
