SA Problem Answers
1) SA = 2(l x w) + 2(w x h) + 2(l x h)
SA = 2(12" x 6") + 2(6" x 9") + 2(12" x 9")
SA = 144 in2 + 108 in2 + 216 in2
SA = 468 in2
It will take 468 in2 of veneer to make the jewellery box.
2) 8 feet x 12 inches = 96 inches
1 foot
A(floor) = l x w = 35" x 35" = 1225 in2
A(wall) = l x w = 96" x 35" = 3360 in2
SA(shower stall) = 1225 in2 + 3(3360 in2)
= 11305 in2
Vicki should order 11305 in2 of tiles to cover the shower stall.
3) a) SA = 2πr2 + 2πrh
SA = 2(3.14)(3 in)2 + 2(3.14)(3 in)(48 in)
SA = 56.52 in2 + 904.32 in2
SA = 960.84 in2
The SA is 960.84 in2.
b) 48 in x 1 foot = 4 feet
12 in
6 in x 1 foot = 0.5 feet
12 in
SA = 2πr2 + 2πrh
SA = 2(3.14)(0.25 ft)2 + 2(3.14)(0.25 ft)(4 ft)
SA = 0.3925 ft2 + 6.28 ft2
SA = 6.6725 ft2
The SA is 6.6725 ft2.
