IMPORTANT: LET THE TOMATOES SIT
(ROOM TEMPERATURE OR
REFRIGERATOR) AT LEAST SIX (6)
HOURS. This removes water from
tomatoes so that they will cook up
nice and crispy.
Remove tomatoes from container. Mix
a cup of flour, a little salt and pepper
(to taste) in bowl. Coat each tomato
slice with flour. LET
SIT 30 MINUTES.
Heat oil in a skillet to medium high.
Place tomatoes in oil. (Reduce heat
when necessary). Let tomatoes brown
on one side, then turn and brown on
the other. When tomatoes are a
golden brown, remove one at a time
and place on paper towels to drain.

4 Vidalia onions, thinly sliced
3 tablespoons margarine
1 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 c. chicken broth
1 c. milk
1/2 c. heavy whipping cream
3 egg yolks, beaten
1 1/2 tsp. paprika
ground black pepper to taste
1/8 tablespoon hot pepper sauce
2 tablespoons chopped fresh
parsley
In a saucepan, melt butter or
margarine over medium heat. Add
onions: saute until golden brown,

minutes.
When onions are very tender, stir in
milk and cream. Heat through.

A Baker’s Dozen Rules for Life in the South
1. If attending a funeral in the South:
remember, we stay until the last shovel
of dirt is thrown on and the tent is torn
down.
2. You need only two tools: WD-40 and
duct tape. If it doesn't move and it
should, use the WD-40. If it moves and it
shouldn't, use the duct tape.
3. You can get away with saying almost
anything if you follow it up with,“Bless
your heart.”
4. Everyone seems normal until you get to
know ‘em.
5. When you make a mistake, make
amends immediately. It's easier to eat
crow while it's still warm.
6. The only really good advice that your
mama ever gave you was: "Go! You
might meet somebody!"
7. Don't be surprised to find movie
rentals and fishing bait in the same
store.
8. Save all manner of bacon grease. If it
can't be fried in bacon grease, it ain't
worth cooking, let alone eating.
9. Never pass up an opportunity to eat
or go to the bathroom. In that order.
10. If you wake up breathing,
congratulations! You have another
chance!
11. Remember: "Y'all" is singular. "All y'all" is
plural. "All y'all's" is plural possessive.
12. Work is good, but it's not all that
important.
13. Just because one can drive on snow
and ice does not mean we can't stay
home the two days of the year it
snows.
Baker's Dozen. A regular dozen is twelve, but a baker's dozen is 13.Years ago in England there were strict
penalties for those who gave short weight. During this era Bakers were usually not educated and terrible counters.
So to avoid any penalties, the bakers would give 13 instead of 12 to a dozen, just in case they miscalculated.
I’ll never be hungry again
“As God is my witness, I'll never be hungry again.”
Scarlett O’Hara, Gone with the Wind
Gone With The Wind (1939) is often
considered the most beloved, enduring
and popular film of all time. Sidney
Howard's script was derived from
Margaret Mitchell's first and only
published, best-selling Civil War and
Reconstruction Period novel of 1,037
pages that first appeared in 1936, but
was mostly written in the late 1920s.
Producer David O. Selznick had acquired
the film rights to Mitchell's novel in July,
1936 for $50,000 - a record amount at the
time to an unknown author for her first
novel, causing some to label the film
"Selznick's Folly." At the time of the film's
release, the fictional book had surpassed
1.5 million copies sold. More records were
set when the film was first aired on
television in two parts in late 1976, and
controversy arose when it was restored
and released theatrically in 1998.
Clark Gable's line "Frankly, my dear, I don't
give a damn" was voted as the #1 movie
quote by the American Film Institute.
Margaret Munnerlyn Mitchell (1900-1949)
"If the novel has a theme it is that of survival.
What makes some people able to come through
catastrophes and others, apparently just as able,
strong and brave, go under? It happens in every
upheaval. Some people survive; others don't.
What qualities are in those who fight their way
through triumphantly that are lacking in those
who go under...? I only know that the survivors
used to call that quality 'gumption.' So I wrote
about the people who had gumption and the
people who didn't." Margaret Mitchell @ Macmillan 1936
A few of Margaret Mitchell's working titles for the
novel included "Tomorrow is Another Day," "Not in
Our Stars," "Bugles Sang True" and "Tote the
Weary Load."
Margaret Mitchell was born Nov. 8, 1900 in
Atlanta to a family with ancestry not unlike the
O’Hara’s in Gone With the Wind. Her mother,
Mary Isabelle “Maybelle” Stephens was of IrishCatholic ancestry. Her father, Eugene Muse
Mitchell, an Atlanta attorney. Members of the
family had fought in the American Revolution,
Irish uprisings and rebellions and the Civil War.
