One of the first steps Srikrishna Jhaver took in setting up his industrial empire was
his taking over Oakley Bowden Coy. - a British company, trading in medicines, in
the year 1894. This company imported medicines from UK to be distributed in South
India. Jhaver's vision and entrepreneurship saw the company prosper and become
one of South India's leading business houses

Indigenous manufacture of medicines was important if the Company had to march
into the future. Jhaver knew this and laid the foundation for a manufacturing facility
in Chennai and named the company Tablets (India) Ltd., keeping in tune with the
national spirit.

Introduction:
The 19th century witnessed the emergence of a new generation of Indian
Industrialists who were fired by the spirit of the Independence
movement. They envisioned India as an Industrial Superpower.
R. Srikrishna Jhaver was one such visionary who shared his dream and
was aware that the future of India lay in the development of indigenous
industry. He initiated this process when he founded the Jhaver Group,
which he nurtured into an Industrial Powerhouse.
