scale) and ease of access. Variety of activities in and
around huge redwood trees including walking, biking, picnicking, hiking, learning. Variety of visitors including families with children, seniors and the disabled. Redwoods at
the edge of open space or water—sunlight!
Beach & Coast
Moonstone, Agate, Clam Beach, Lost Coast--Shelter
Cove/Black Sand Beach. Variety of people walking on the
beach, flying kites, beachcombing, agate hunting, building
sand castles, romping with dogs, beach parties with bonfires, kids paddling in tidepools or lagoons (not in the surf)
Wildlife
Nature Walks—variety of people. Viewing Elk at Elk
Prairie (Prairie Creek Redwoods) or Elk Meadow (Davison
Road, Orick).Visitors observing Elk from a safe distance
Watching Birds at the Arcata Marsh & Wildlife Sanctuary,
at Humboldt Bay National Wildlife Refuge. Whales, seals,
otters, etc. Show visitors engaged & interested
Rivers & Lagoons
People enjoying scenic vistas. Soft activities including picnics, walks, swimming, boating. Wildlife and scenery.
