Call for Submissions

In celebration of our upcoming Andy Warhol: Portraits exhibition, the Virginia Museum of Contemporary
Art (MOCA) invites all artists living in Hampton Roads to participate in “Fifteen Square Inches of Fame.”
The open exhibition will be presented in conjunction with Warhol’s Portraits, and will serve as the
community’s artistic response to the life and work of Andy Warhol. Throughout his career, Warhol
portrayed celebrities, friends, family, and public figures alike in his signature style, revolutionizing the
conversations we have about art and American pop culture. This is a special opportunity for all visual
artists to show how Warhol has influenced them and exhibit their work at MOCA.
We ask that you submit one original portrait to the exhibition. All visual mediums are welcome.
Requirements




Artwork should be some kind of a portrait, though it does not have to be a traditional
representation.
Exhibition is open to Hampton Roads artists of all ages.
Submit one piece of work per artist.
Each work of art will be accepted as long as the piece is no more than 15 X 15 inches.
A two-dimensional work (including frame) cannot extend beyond 15 × 15 inches square; a
three-dimensional work (including the base) must fit within a 15-inch cube.



Work must arrive to MOCA ready to hang or be installed.
Any medium is allowed.
Submissions can be made in person from May 17-19, 10am to 4:00pm at MOCA; or received by
mail by May 17: “MOCA’S Fifteen Square Inches of Fame” 2200 Parks Virginia Beach, VA 23451.
Please note
MOCA cannot insure works during the exhibition, nor can we accommodate requests for placing work in
specific locations for “Fifteen Square Inches of Fame.”
Artwork will be accepted for display only and will not be for sale. MOCA staff will pass along artist
contact information to any interested buyers.

Art Pick Up Guidelines
"Fifteen Square Inches of Fame" closes on August 19, 2012. Pick up will take place at the MOCA
galleries on these dates:

Tuesday, August 21 : 9am- 5pm

Wednesday, August 22: 9am- 5pm

Thursday , August 23: 9am- 5pm

Friday, August 24; 9am-5pm

Saturday, August 25: 10am -4pm
When you pick up your artwork, please bring:


Your Receipt of Delivery or a picture ID
Any packing materials you will need to get your artwork home safely
IMPORTANT: We are not able to return artworks by mail. If you cannot pick up your artwork
during the assigned dates, please ask a friend, relative, or colleague to do so for you. Make sure
they bring a copy of the Receipt of Delivery you received during the drop-off. All artworks left
after August 25 will be discarded unless prior arrangements are made and confirmed by MOCA
staff.
