Colorado PGA Merchandiser of the Year Award Winner-Private Category,
was featured November 29 in the first of 5 PGA Magazine Top Best
Women & Golf Practices. Steven’s best practice referred to the importance
and business impact of developing a handicap-based points race for
women golfers, “Chase to the Championship”. PGA Magazine worked with a panel of PGA
Professional judges to select the top five PGA Best Practices in the Women & Golf category. This
was the first of five award-winning best practices that will run for the next five weeks.

MALLON, STACY LEWIS
LPGA stars Meg Mallon, the 2013 U.S. Solheim Cup Captain, and Stacy Lewis, the 2012
Rolex Player of the Year, who leads the U.S. Team points standings, were recognized on
the field before the Denver Broncos’ game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Sunday,
Dec 2 at Sports Authority Field at Mile High, Denver. They also had the Solheim Cup
trophy with them on the field for photo opportunities and were available for interviews
before, during and after the game. The 2013 Solheim Cup will take place Aug. 13-18 at
Colorado Golf Club in Parker, Colo., and will match the top 12 U.S.-born players on the
LPGA Tour against the best European players in a three-day, match-play event similar to the Ryder

ATHERTON, HILTS, WEARNER NAMED GOLF
DIGESTS BEST YOUNG TEACHERS IN AMERICA
The Colorado PGA was well represented recently when
Golf Digest named their Best Young Teachers in
America. The annual list identified those teachers, all
under age 40, through surveys and discussions with
PGA of America leaders and top instructors nationwide
as well as their own grassroots research. Making the list for 2012 was Steve Atherton, PGA
Instructor at Eagle Springs Golf Club, Andy Hilts, PGA Director of Instruction at GolfTEC
Headquarters, and Trent Wearner, PGA Director of Instruction at the Trent Wearner Golf
Academy. All three members have been named Colorado PGA Teacher of the Year: Atherton in
2008, Hilts in 2005, and Wearner in 2004.
TED APOSTOLOS JOINS PGA QUARTER CENTRUY CLUB FOR 25
YEARS
Congratulations to Ted Apostolos, PGA Life Member from Colorado
Springs, on his election to membership in the PGA Quarter Century Club
joining an elite group of members who have served The PGA with honor
and pride for 25 years.
Ted will be honoured with a Quarter Century Club certificate and gold lapel
pin, as well as be acknowledged in an upcoming issue of PGA Magazine.

against PGA Tour, LPGA Tour, Champions Tour, and many other
Professional Golfers at the 2012 Callaway Pebble Beach Invitational,
November 13-18, on Pebble Beach Golf Links, Spyglass Hill Golf Course,
Del Monte and Pebble Beach Golf Links, Pebble Beach, California.
