Year 8 Spring Term Overview
This term, we have been focusing on perfecting our manners and etiquette, as well as ensuring that we are
wearing our uniform correctly, confidently and with pride. In order to encourage these values, we introduced
Student Ambassadors. This allows pupils to take a lead role in helping the school office and reception by
undertaking administration and public relation duties for Ms Jackson. The year team has also seen a range of
students win ‘Student of the Week’, and as a reward they are treated to a breakfast in Bealissimo with
Mr Mooney. The Sixth Form team held a ‘Culture Day’ with students and teachers wearing clothes from their
culture. We have also seen the success of many school trips and individual achievements. We hope that next
term is just as amazing!

What are Student Ambassadors?
Student Ambassadors are Year 8 pupils who are selected by
their class teachers, tutors, or the Year Team, to devote one
of their school days to assist and help in the school reception
with Ms Jackson, the School Manager. The reason a student
would be chosen for this role would be to further develop
the Beal Character and to be a role model around the
campus. On the day, they might be expected to run errands,
deliver messages to classrooms, host a tour for a visitor and
much more. Ambassadors are expected to be equipped with
a reading book which they will read during the day whilst
they are not occupied with jobs. This encourages students to
spend more time developing their literacy skills.
“We encourage our students to develop their Beal character
as: Heroes, Care Givers, Creators, Explorers and Leaders and
they rise to this challenge every day. BE A Leader helps
them to develop skills and values; collaboration, cooperation and celebration are the underlying principles.”
– Ms Wilmot, Principal of Beal High School.

What have the Student Ambassadors
thought of the experience?
“I would rate it 10/10 as it was very
enjoyable. It informs you of how the
school works and who is behind the
running of the school. I loved the jobs
given to me as it gave me a sense of
responsibility.”
Sruthi Kajenthra 8FE
“I would recommend any student who
enjoys being sociable and helping
others to take part in this
experience.”

YEAR 8 NEWSLETTER

Over the past 5 weeks, Year 8 girls have been taking part in the Fit Project 17. This
initiative aims to improve not only fitness, but leadership skills, team work and
self-esteem. The girls have taken part in various fitness challenges every Monday,
and classes range from boxing and circuit training to athletics. The project has
teamed up with Sky Sports and had Abi Oyepitan, an Olympic 200m sprinter who
reached the finals of the 2004 Olympics, won silver at the Commonwealth games
and reached the semi-final of the London 2012 Olympics, as the representative.
Abi came to Beal and worked with 20 of the girls for a 2 hour workshop on
improving self-esteem and teamwork, as well as sharing her success story of how
she overcame obstacles to achieve her dreams.
All the girls who participated were an absolute credit to Beal and showed hard
work, talent and the ability to achieve.
The girls are due to go to Lea Valley for another session with Abi and to continue to
develop their skills in becoming future leaders and ambassadors within sport.
