Welcome to Dance Dimensions Browns Bay
Our motto is DANCE FOR FUN DANCE FOR EVERYONE. We are dedicated to passing on our passion and lifelong love of dance to our students. We want to inspire
them to be the best that they can be by nurturing creativity, and encouraging them to discover their own distinctive style through developmental dance sequences.
You can expect of lot of fun in our high energy classes. We believe that everyone should have the chance to discover the benefits of dance, regardless of age, body
type or experience. Whether you are a beginner or have a dance back ground of any type you will find you have a place in our dance family. Every student is cared
for as if they were our very own and we love promoting our great studio.
Tutors
Many of our team of qualified tutors are some of New Zealand’s most experienced teachers, dancers and choreographers. Many of them have had extensive
international performance experience. Some have careers in the professional dance arena here in New Zealand. Some are still studying in the dance and teaching
arenas. Some are doing hands on assisting to help them in their training.
We all have one thing in common and that is the desire to inspire and pass on our passion and love of dance to our students. We like to keep things fast pace and
fun whilst creating a positive and productive atmosphere that encourages all our pupils to do their absolute best.
Show Time
Our pupils spend the year working towards our spectacular annual dance extravaganza in which they get to show case their hard work by performing professionally
choreographed eye catching routines. For this reason attendance is high on our priority list. We guarantee that if you commit yourself 100% for the year you will
achieve levels that exceed your expectations. The show is a fantastic experience, extremely entertaining and well worth the dedication.
DANCE STYLES
Hip Hop
Hip Hop is urban, it’s street, it’s diverse and forever changing. It is a high energy class that uses the latest sounds in RnB and pop music together with movements
influenced by some of today’s hottest video choreographers. It includes a wide range of styles primarily breaking, locking, popping, whacking, krumping and
robotics as well as freestyle movement to give the students the opportunity to develop their own sense of style.
Our tutors work hard to keep our routines fresh and up to date. Our music is carefully selected and our choreography is age appropriate. This class will perform in
the end of year show.
Uniform
 Comfortable and appropriate clothing must be worn such as Hip hop pants, leggings, Bike shorts or sports shorts, T Shirt, fitted singlet.
 No skirts, jeans, or jean shorts to be worn. Baggy singlets must have sports bra worn underneath and baggy shorts must have bike pants underneath.
 Bring a drink bottle
Lyrical
Lyrical dance is a dance style that blends ballet and jazz dance. Lyrical is generally smoother and a bit faster than ballet, but not quite as fast as jazz.
Lyrical dancers usually perform to music with lyrics...the lyrics of the chosen song serve as inspiration for movements and expressions. Music used for lyrical is
typically emotionally charged and expressive. Music may consist of many genres including pop, rock and hip hop. Powerful, expressive songs are often used in
lyrical dance to give dancers a chance to express a range of strong emotions through their dancing.
Movements in lyrical dance are characterized by fluidity and grace, with the dancer flowing seamlessly from one move to another, holding finishing steps as long as
possible. Leaps are exceptionally high and soaring, and turns are fluid and continuous.
All our Lyrical classes have 3 components



Comprehensive warm up and stretch
Across the floor and centre work such as Balance exercises, turns and leaps
Fun and challenging dance combinations
Uniform – as above with barefeet or feet undies
Contemporary
Contemporary dance is an accessible dance form that encourages both technique and creativity. Dance Dimensions' contemporary dance classes reflect current
practices for contemporary dancers in New Zealand including the current teaching approaches, research, choreographic and /or performance practice.
Our tutor, Kimy, brings her own personal movement vocabulary and choreographic style into the studio, whilst floor work, exercises and combinations are built on
each week, enabling students to explore their own movement style and creativity. Enjoy the exhilaration that comes from dancing through space with ease and
confidence. Contemporary dance is equally challenging as it is rewarding.
#Glide Time Classes
You can choose your start and finish times with these classes. Ask for an adult timetable.
Dance Fusion
This class blends all the elements of Hip Hop and Street Funk whilst introducing you to the qualities of TheatreJazz. It is a high energy class which focuses on
technique, style, choreography and stage performance. All our music is carefully selected and we ensure that all of our choreography is age appropriate. Students
will perform two routines in the end of year production. The first routine will be geared towards the Hip Hop/Street funk genre and the second will explore themed
choreography which often has more of a Jazz flavour. No exams just pure fun.
Jallet

A mixture of jazz and ballet, it has the smooth, flowing lines of ballet blended with inspiring jazz moves. It will bring out your
creativity and free your spirit! Pronounced with a soft “G’ sound.
Adult Absolute Beginners learning basic dance vocabulary from various jazz-based styles. You have the option of gliding into the next 15 minutes of the next class.
Adult Dancefusion Fitness - 15 minutes of slow warm up , 20 minutes of cardio and core strength work, 10 minutes of stretch and flexibility work, 15 minutes of
technique, skills or dance combos , shifting between Dancefusion and Jallet styles , either half and half or alternate weeks
Performance Choro – for those dancers with experience who wish to perform in our production in December. For the first 15mins you glide into the technique and
combo section of the last class , 40 minutes choreography with a view to performing 1 Dance fusion, 1 Jallet and one combination of the 2 items for the show. The
last 5minutes will be cooling down.
Performance Classes
These classes are by invitation only unless you get in via an audition or go through a 4 week trial period at the beginning of a term to be reviewed at the end of
week 4. Performance classes are for our most dedicated, passionate and enthusiastic students. One of the requirements is that you must do two or more classes
per week, and we would prefer that the second class be a more technical based class such as Lyrical . You also have to be available and want to do extra
performances throughout the year. This is also a big commitment for parents of younger students too. We currently have 2 performance classes –one for 9-11yrs
and one for 12yrs+. These groups have extra performance opportunities throughout the year.
If you think you have what it takes and are willing to commit please email me at [email protected]
Theatre jazz
For those who love a sense of the dramatic and enjoy musical theatre. This will be a jazz based class.
Jazz/technique
This is the big umbrella style for all the others and is what all our classes derive from. Megan will be focussing on improving your technique in an young adults
only class. Prepare to be blasted off into dance orbit.
