They vowed that if God were to spare them, they would perform a Passion Play every ten years. They say not a single person fell victim to the Plague after that. Keeping their promise, the people of Oberammergau performed the first play in 1634 and have continued to do so throughout the centuries. - April 6-22 Gateway to Sunshine 16 Day Panama Canal Cruise on the Oceania Marina from Los Angeles to Miami calling on ports in San Diego, CA; Cabo San Lucas & Acapulco, Mexico; Puerto Quetzal, Guatemala, San Juan Del Sur, Nicaragua; Puntarenas, Costa Rico; Cartagena, Columbia and George Town, Cayman Islands as it makes a full transit through the Panama Canal. Canadian Rockies by Rail Myanmar Kim Gambino Dee King To travel to Myanmar, formerly Burma, is to step back in time… to a place that has changed little since the British colonial era. In 2015 Myanmar voted in its first democratically elected government in over half a century. The world is rushing to do business there. Swathes of the country, off-limits for years, can now be freely visited. Modern-day travel conveniences, such as mobile phone coverage and internet access, are now common, but largely confined to the big cities and towns, where the recent economic and social improvements are most obvious. Thankfully, the change of pace is not overwhelming, leaving the simple pleasures of travel in Myanmar intact. Enjoy a slow pace down the Ayeyarwady (Irrawaddy) River in a luxury cruiser. Stake out a slice of beach on the blissful Bay of Bengal. Trek through pine forests to minority villages scattered across the Shan Hills without jostling with scores of fellow travelers. Best of all, you’ll encounter locals who are gentle, humorous, engaging, considerate, inquisitive and passionate – they want to play a part in the world, and to know what you make of their world. Now is the time to make that connection. The all-suite Avalon Myanmar, a remarkable suite ship, delivers a truly intimate experience with a maximum of 36 guests. It has all the modern features you expect, yet it reflects the character of Myanmar. For more information including dates, rates and an itinerary, call the travel professionals at Warwick Travel. Alligood, CTC, Warwick Travel Service H aving recently returned with a group of Warwick Travelers, I want to share our experience of this exciting adventure, visiting England, Scotland, Wales, Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland. From rolling green countryside and castles to charming cobblestone streets and traditional pubs, the region offers something for every cruiser. The compact nature of the British Isles means you can spend more time onshore, so you can visit landmarks such as Stonehenge and the Blarney Stone and also visit historic cities such as Dublin, Edinburgh and London. On a morning flight from Dulles, we arrived in London at 7:30 pm (London time), transferred to our hotel and off to bed for a good night’s sleep. The next three days were filled with tours and sightseeing—visiting the state rooms in Buckingham Palace, the Tower of London, St. Paul’s Cathedral, the Victoria & Albert Museum, the British Museum and the Churchill War Rooms, including the 19 underground bunkers during World War II. Our evenings were filled with a London Thames Dinner Cruise and plays. On our first full day aboard ship we cruised the North Sea towards Newcastle, U.K., our first port city. Here, I visited the Beamish Open Air Museum, consisting of dozens of original buildings from different time periods that have been reconstructed to create an Edwardian historical town. Most exciting and is still expanding. Edinburgh, Scotland, was our second port where we planned to anchor; however, rough seas changed those plans, so we continued to our next port of call. This sometimes happens when the seas are a little too rough to launch the tenders. Of course, this is always the Captain’s call! Buckingham Palace Although I had previously visited Ireland, I had never visited Northern Ireland, so I was excited about our next ports of call.
