St. Bernard Parish 4-H Newsletter “4-H is a community of young people across America who are learning leadership, citizenship and life skills.” Get Involved!!!!! The best way to discover what 4-H has to offer is to get involved. Start off by running for office. You can be elected as the President, Vice President, Secretary, Treasure or one of the other club officers. Get involved by promoting National 4-H Week October 7-13. Keep up with what is going on in 4-H by reading and sharing with your parents the monthly 4-H Newsletter you receive at your club meetings. Attend the monthly club meetings held at your school. Each month Mr. Wayne and Ms. Lauren will bring news and information about 4-H to you at your Club Meeting. Participate in parish-wide 4-H events like the Bicycle Rodeo in October and the Pet Show in November. Just remember the 4-H Slogan is “Learn by Doing”, so do something and get involved. You will have a great time! 4-H School Clubs As a member of a 4-H Club at your school you are a member of one of many clubs in St. Bernard Parish. As a 4-H Club Member you will have the opportunity to participate in 4-H Club meetings and activities at your school as well as Parish wide events. The rodeo consists of skilled riding events that do not require speed or stunt riding. Events include: Saturday, October 13, 2012 We will provide the location in the October Newsletter 1. Slow Ride Event Schedule: 12:00 noon—Registration and rodeo begins. 1:30 p.m.— Registration Ends 2:00 p.m.—Snail Race 2:30 p.m. Awards & Prizes 2. Snail Race 4-H Camp Slogan/T-Shirt Design Contest Each summer 4-H Club Members may choose to attend 4-H Summer Camp. Summer Camp is a week long camp at 4-H Camp Grant Walker in Pollock, Louisiana. Each year camp has a “catchy theme” that appears on the camp t-shirt and publicity for camp. You can be a part of designing the Camp Slogan and T-Shirt by submitting an entry in the “Catch-phrase for Camp” Contest. Past slogans have included “Where the fun begins and friendship never ends”, “4-H Camp Rocks!”, and “Making Memories that Count”. Send us your most creative phrase in 10 words or less along with your original art work for the t-shirt design. Submit your idea on a standard size sheet of paper. Entries must include: Full name of the 4-H Club Member Age, Grade, Name of 4-H Club or School Parish Complete Mailing Address, Telephone Number All entries are due to your 4-H Leader by October 19, 2012. St. Bernard Parish Prizes: 1st Place—$20.00 Gift Card 2nd Place—$15.00 Gift Card 3rd Place—$10.00 Gift Card State Winner: $50.00 Cash Award Officer/Leader Training Being elected as an officer for your 4-H Club is one of the best ways for you to become involved in the 4-H Club at your school. When you become an officer you also accept the responsibility that comes with holding that position. In order for you to be successful as an officer for your 4-H Club you will need to attend a training that will teach you the responsibilities of your office. All officers in St. Bernard Parish will attend a training in Belle Chasse. Transportation will be provided from Chalmette High School on St. Bernard Parish School Busses. Lunch will be served.
