1. Oral Histories Update- Chair Eichelberger gave the following update regarding
input from the fair:
•
Randy Henry- 208.691.4151
Henry's Point was previously known as Elmore Beach. There were ten fishing cabins that
could be rented by clients of the Bozanta Tavern. A boat from Bozanta carried fishermen
and vacationers across the lake. Before the level of the lake raised the water level, the end
of the lake was just north of the huge sandy beach that stretches out south of the point.
The "back bay'', to the north and east of the beach was marshy and unattractive but the
walk around the end of the lake was an easy one. A fenced but marshy meadow was
located to the north.
After WWII the five Henry brothers purchased the camp. All five were doctors. Randy has
heard many stories of summertime "mash" sessions that took place. If someone got hurt
on or around the lake it was quicker to visit the Henry doctors that lived at the point than
to go to town. Telephone service wasn't dependable so flaks would just show up. The
kitchen table served as an examination, and sometimes an operating table.
The family tried to buy some land near Rockaway Bay so they could just park cars and boat
across to the land and save time. It's only about five (5) miles on the road but it takes an
extra 10-15 minutes driving time.
The family has pictures taken by photographer Ross Hall from Sandpoint. Randy said he
provided many of the photos that hang in the halls of the country club.

Regarding Henry's Point...Ruth Nelson related that after her dad retired and moved to
Dalton Gardens he returned to the lake each summer as a caretaker for the families at
Henry's Point.
Movie about Pete Peterson ...A movie company wanted to use the camp for their movie set.
See article from the Spokesman Review from 2011.
Jack Sheehan friend of Pete Peterson's. His father was also a dentist in Spokane,
Washington.
Look at the Coeur d'Alene Press summer of 1964 and 1982 when the diver's found the
wreckage.
•
Carl Greene- 208.699.0931
Dad is Robert Greene. The Greene family reside off Lake View Drive at the Arabian horse
driveway. (Mom liked horses.) Moved here in 1963 and purchased 40 acres but have sold
off two lots to the north. Carl is about the same age as Connie Barker Gray's younger
brother Bobby.
Had a beekeeper's booth at the fair. His attention was drawn to our booth because he
recognized the photo of the Stoddard Farm. He knew the prior owners, the
Simundsons/Simunson. They had twin sons named Dave and ???
Carl had many teenage jobs with the neighbors along Rimrock He knew the Harel and the
Rami families. He remembered Mrs. Rami's yellow rosebush. He said that Mrs. Rami kept
house for the Rodells of Rodell Motors. Are Rodells related to Hagadones?
Carl is interested in history and might be a candidate for the commission.

might remember some of the dairies and orchards that used to be in the area. Also his
mother, Lorainne Tipke lives on Hayden Avenue just before Ramsey Road. Her husband
was the first policeman in Hayden. She is quite elderly but very sharp.
•
Dave Coppom's wife has a print from Leo Photography of the lake taken around 1926 or
1928. Chair Eichelberger looked on line but only learned that the Museum of North Idaho
and Cheney Cowles museum in Spokane were given his collection after he died around
1999. Leo was Leo Oestreicher.
