Why Do I Want To Get Mamas Together To Support Each Other?
Starting in 2015 Tree House Family Counselling will be running an awesome new program/group for
mums. Here is why!
I love being a mum and am lucky enough to be surrounded by wonderful supportive women (my mum, my
sister, my girls, my Mama’s group).
I also am a part of many parenting and mama related groups online and see and talk to other mums weekly
about their experiences through my work. I have learnt some interesting things about how mums do and
do not support each other since becoming a mum.
As you may have read in a previous blog post, I think Parenting is hard. I think all parents and mums
especially, need to support each other more. I think mums are too hard on themselves and sometimes each
other. I think mums feel judged, overwhelmed, stressed, inadequate and tired. I think mums deserve to
look after themselves but are often too busy putting everyone else’s needs first.
We all have our own parenting styles, have parenting fails and parenting wins, good days and bad days. I
want to bring Mums together to learn from each other and share with each other without judgement. I
want to help mums understand how to listen to their gut, follow their instincts and do what feels right for
themselves and their family. I want to help mums nourish and nurture themselves in the company of other
women. I want to bring together mums of all kinds to create a tribe of women who can hear each other.
A support circle for women looks like this daisy, the green circle (not perfectly shaped but with bumps and
irregularity) holds together and overlaps the individual, beautiful petals
So this brings me to the details of The Tree House Mamas Support Circle. 1 night a week for 8 weeks during
term time. A small group of mums coming together to learn about and discuss such topics as nurturing and
nourishing yourself and your adult relationships and managing and expressing emotions such as guilt,
anger and overwhelm. The chance to share an issue or topic that you are struggling with and have input
from a professional counsellor and other mums in a respectful and non-judgmental space. A chance to
focus on yourself and your wellbeing for 2 hours a week. Nice tea and yummy, healthy treats in a beautiful,
comfy environment.
The group will be facilitated by me, Emma Holdsworth a trained and experienced counsellor who has
worked with parents and kids for many years in both individual and group settings.
At the end of the 8 weeks the group will decide ‘Where to from here?’ There will be several options for
continued support and how that looks will be determined by the needs of the group.
The first Tree House Mamas Support Circle starts in February 2015. You can get all the details and reserve
your spot HERE. Or visit the website www.treehousecounselling.com.au
I can’t wait to welcome you in to the Tribe xx
PS – The extra awesomeness is that Bookings made by the 31st December will receive a FREE copy of the
Energetic Mama ebook written by Jessica Donovan! Valued at $29.95!

Why we all need to take a time-out each day
"While you'll feel compelled to charge forwardit's often a gentle step back that will
reveal to you where you and what you truly seek.” ~ Rasheed Ogunlaru
Sometimes the best things we can do for ourselves, is to just to stop. To take a break, breathe, enjoy the
beauty in nature and just be.
See if today you can find a space to just sit for a while. Perhaps outside in your own backyard, or at the
beach, or maybe just under a tree at a local park, and just sit.
Take a moment to realise that being quiet and still is a decision that we can make. It’s our choice – to
continue our “busy-ness” or to find some peace. We have complete ownership of our lives, and we CAN
decide that when life becomes overwhelming….it’s ok to find a time and place to take a quiet break. We
all deserve this!
16
See if you can find a place where you will feel calm and be able to relax, even if it means asking a friend,
family member or neighbor to watch the kids for a few minutes so you can completely relax. Being busy
shouldn’t be a badge of honour, in fact, never taking time out will limit us from being authentic and
finding our true self. It is perfectly ok not to be busy! Appreciate the value of resting. Know that you will
feel a whole lot better if you allow yourself to schedule break times, even if they are just for a few
minutes each day. Here are some simple ideas of how you can find some calmness today:
Schedule it in.
When writing todays “to do” list, include your time out. Write it in your diary, schedule it in so that you
ensure it happens.
Stop the excuses.
Try not to worry about having to complete your next task…and remind yourself that it’s important to
take a rest too, and this will enable you to complete the rest of the tasks of the day with more efficiency.
Remove distractions.
Take as little with you as possible. Leave the phone, the ipod, even your journal or book behind and just
sit. Just take in the beauty of nature around you. Smell the scents and fragrances in the air, feel the
grass, sand, earth beneath you and feel the breeze across your face and in your hair. Soak it all up.
Give yourself enough time.
If you feel you have a lot to get done today, just try taking just 5 minutes. Once you allow yourself a
time out as part of your daily routine, you’ll begin to make more time, even extending up to 30 -45
minutes of ‘nothingness’! Imagine today how good that would be, and commit yourself to increasing
your break each day.
Allow yourself to breathe. To just be.
Try to allow yourself to let go of your other thoughts and distractions by saying to yourself “I can
come back to my other tasks and commitments in 10 minutes, but for now I’ll just let them go”. They
will still be there when you return from your time-out, so let your mind just wander. It may take a few
minutes for your mind to slow down and quieten, but each time a thought about being busy pops into
your mind, imagine letting it float away, and coming back to nothingness. You may find that your
mind will eventually settle in on something that your heart and sub-conscious mind has been trying
to tell you for quite some time. Listen.
…and now, dedicate yourself to taking a moment for yourself EVERY DAY
It may take a little time to be able to relax and let go of thoughts, but one day at a time, give yourself a
chance to try. You’ve nothing to lose, and a whole lot of calmness and peacefulness to gain!
