ALL IS NOT LOST…YET
After explaining to Juliet his elaborate plan to prevent her having to marry
Paris, Friar Laurence tells her before she leaves, “I’ll send a friar with speed to
Mantua, with letters to thy lord.” It is Friar Laurence’s intention that Romeo
will know of the plan because, after all, he has a part in it. Write Friar
Laurence’s letter to Romeo, informing him of what’s going on, and what’s to
come.
ALONE TO GOSSIP
The night before her daughter’s wedding, Lady Capulet comes to Juliet’s
room and eagerly offers help, but Juliet tells her, “let me now be left alone,
and let the Nurse this night sit up with you.” Both dismissed, the Nurse and
Lady Capulet leave Juliet’s room and chat with one another on their way to
their own beds about Juliet and about the next day’s impending festivities.
Write their conversation.
LEAVE NOTHING TO CHANCE
As she lies in bed, Juliet expresses her fear that the potion won’t work, or
that it is poison that shall kill her. Not wanting to leave anything to chance,
Juliet decides to write a last love letter to her husband, making sure she
writes down her feelings for him, why she’s taken the action she’s about to,
and her fears and hopes for the future. Write her letter to Romeo.
ANY LAST WORDS?
It was often custom to bury the dead with remembrances of their life,
including mementos, jewelry and the like. In this case, Lord and Lady Capulet,
along with the Nurse, decide to write a joint letter to Juliet, each dedicated
to writing about a paragraph. In this letter, they each tell Juliet how they feel
about her, how they found out about what happened to her, what they were
doing at the time, and how they reacted. Write their letter.
