Philip Randolph Elementary School 5320 Campbellton Road, Atlanta, GA 30331 Asa Philip Randolph was the guiding light behind America’s nonviolent movement in the 20th century. Asa Philip was an influential labor organizer working to establish fair working conditions for blacks throughout the country. In 1925, Randolph was the first black labor leader to gain a contract with a big company, The George Pullman Railroad Company in response to the treatment of black workers.After 12 long years he won a contract for better working conditions and salaries . He is the only black civil rights leader earning Executive Orders from two presidents, “Fair Employment Practices” and” Ending Discrimination in the Armed Services.” He organized protest against racial discrimination in America- including the massive March On Washington for Jobs and Freedom and rally in the nations Capitol 1963.
