T. Green English 11 Week 8– 09/26 - 9/30/2016 Learning Targets for this week: I can use vocabulary context clues in my writing and to aid my reading comprehension. I can analyze the themes and literary elements of a poem. I can recognize and explain characteristics of Realism and Romanticism found in a film. I can recognize and explain characteristics of American Realism found in a poem. I can relate the content of a work of literature to elements of the author’s life. I can provide textual evidence to support my assertions in a poetry interpretation. ALCOS Standards: 11.1-6;11.8-9; 11.19; 11.22-23; 11.28-30; 11.34-40 Writing –Students will respond in complete sentences to questions on E.A. Robinson’s “Miniver Cheevy.” Students will use standard formal English to compose a paragraph comparing/contrasting Richard Cory to Miniver Cheevy or explaining the theme of isolation reflected in both poems. Vocabulary –Students will begin ACT prep. vocabulary set 4- definitions, sentences (providing an appropriate context), and synoyms/antonyms. Grammar- Students will review rules and complete exercises for subject and verb agreement focusing on compound subjects and indefinite pronouns as subjects. Literature – Students will complete “one-page” character sketches on Richard Cory, the townspeople, or Miniver Cheevy. Students will complete a unit test on Realism, E. A. Robinson, “Richard Cory,” and “Miniver Cheevy.”
