Domestic Violence is NOT ok
Domestic Violence (DV) is the
leading contributor to death,
disability and physical and
mental ill health in women
aged 15-44 years (Vic Health
2004)
Children exposed to Family
Domestic Violence (FDV) also
experience negative impacts
on their physical and mental
development (Perry 2001)
The health of women and
children continue to be
negatively impacted for some
time after the violence

al,2010;Humprey 2007)

As a counselling therapist I
see the impacts of domestic
violence on women and
children on a regular basis. It
deeply saddens me that one
human being thinks they

have the right to treat
another human being so
badly. Domestic violence
gives the victim a false
perspective of the world.
They see the world as unsafe
and scary. No woman, man
or child deserves to be a
victim of domestic violence.
Many people think that
domestic violence is just
physical abuse. It is much
more than physical abuse.

Domestic Violence is NOT ok
54% of women and children
seeking housing assistance
name DFV as their main reason
for needing accommodation.
Women who identify as having
a disability experience abuse at
a much higher rate than the
rest of the population and are
more vulnerable to abuse for
longer periods of time because
of their greater dependence,
need for assistance and social
isolation.
In over 1/3 of homicides, the
offender and the victim were in
a domestic or family relationship and only 1 in 10 of these
women were known to police.
So let me comment on the
above statistic and say that it is
obvious that women are afraid
to make reports to police about
the domestic or family
violence. This means that
women and children are living
in violence on a daily basis. We
as a community need to be
spreading the word that any
form of violence on women,
men or children is absolutely
NOT ok.
We need to protect our friends,
family and community from
violence by speaking out and
saying that VIOLNCE IS NOT
OK.

a journey of understanding what I am most passionate about in life. Once I identified my
passions I felt like I had a purpose in life. I started to understand what is important to me and
instead of living life with no direction, I started to have a clear direction. Having direction in life
is empowering .
I want to share a couple of my life passions with you, because I think identifying what you are
passionate about can give you a whole new lease on life.
1. I am living my true self (I really wanted to live and breath my own true identity . I
wanted to stop pleasing people and stand in my own truth) Being me feels great, yet to be truly
honest I am still discovering my true self and learning to be that everyday. I don’t like to admit
this, but my false self still gets in the way on occasions but I am now aware of this and have an
opportunity to change it.
2. To be teaching meditation classes (Since I was introduced to meditation and started
teaching in 2007, it has become my passion). I believe that meditation is a wonderful practice
for discovering your true self.
If you need any business coaching please go to www.focusedon.com.au and read up on Neel
Raman. I highly recommend him. He is a wonderful business coach and his patience needs to
be bottled. Thank you Neel.
