Moulton Primary School
Newsletter 25 - 24th March 2017
What is good attendance?
Good attendance is vital for children
to achieve well and be happy at
school.
If your child has better that 96%
attendance at school they are doing
well. Children with 80% attendance
will miss an average of one day a week
and two years of school by the time
they are in Year 11. Similarly
attendance of 90% may sound good
but it is still half a day a week and a
year of missed education by the time
they are 16.
Poor attendance can result in children
falling behind their peers and
developing confidence and friendship
issues. Imagine missing a week of
training at work and being asked to
slot back in and keep up with everyone else. We are aware that some absences are unavoidable and caused by
illness, but a significant proportion are due to holiday and appointments taken during term time.
Please think about what you can do to prevent your child from missing school:
 Make sure children understand the importance of good attendance and punctuality.
 Share any worries they may have about school with their teachers so that these can be sorted out.
 Do not encourage time-off for minor ailments - particularly those that would not prevent parents from going to
work.
 Arrange appointments for after school or in holidays.
 Don’t book term-time holidays - we know they cost less, but there is also a cost to children’s education.
Year 4 Blue Abyss
Year Four were very excited to invite parents in on Friday to experience an
exhibition through The Abyss. The children guided the parents through the
different zones of the sea, shared
some fantastic art work based on the
artist J Vincent Scarpace and even
persuaded them to save the coral reef
from the dangers of tourism. The Year
Four teachers and parents were very
proud of all the hard work that the
children put in. Well done Year Four!
Year 3 Life in Prehistoric Britain Exhibition
What a super way for our Year 3 children to showcase their
knowledge and understanding of life in prehistoric Britain. The
open afternoon was organised and led by the children to
demonstrate all the rich learning that had taken place
throughout this topic. Both classes worked collaboratively to
proudly show off their models, non-fiction writing, PowerPoints
and creative skills. Thank you to all those adults that supported
this event, feedback from the children was amazing.
If you are having a spring clean over half term …
KS1 and Reception are planning to create a bank of resources for the children to access and enjoy during playtimes
and lunch. If you are able to support us in developing our resources we would much appreciate it. We are hoping
to gather the following items:

- Duplo/Lego
- Dolls/Figures/Soft toys
- Crayons/Felt tips

- Dressing up clothes
If you are able to help us, please give any unwanted resources to your class teacher. Thank you for your support.

Mufti Day – Friday 12th May 2017
In exchange for children wearing their own clothes on Friday 12th May we are asking for a
contribution towards our event at Moulton Festival. We would like the children to bring a
filled jar. The Jar can be filled with any goodies from sweets, stationery, chocolates, toys,
hairbands (unused) etc. You can make them as interesting and varied as you like.
Please do not include anything fresh as the jars will not be won until Saturday 20th May.
Also please do not use jars that have contained strong smelling items ie pickles as the
fragrance remains even after the jars have been washed. The jars will be collected from
the children as they enter the school or MASK on Friday 12th May 2017.
