Indirect Characterization
Find some indirect character traits using the STEAL format. Much of the way that we see character traits
is through thoughts, actions, speech, effect on others, and their looks—these are indirect character
traits. Find a quote that displays each trait for the character that you are assigned.

Analyze your character. Who are they? What are they like? What role do they play in the story? What
traits describe them?—these questions are intended to get you to think about your character from
multiple perspectives.
