EBS Classroom Channel Highlights Week of February 20, 2017 Grades K-5 Reading Rainbow “Show Way” Finding our heritage through family stories and artifacts provides a mirror to the past and a window to the future. “Show Way” traces the lineage of one family's women who began creating quilts with secret maps to freedom during the years of slavery and continued in the generations beyond as a tribute to the past. Host LeVar Burton and his family discover some items from earlier relatives, and we meet a grandmother who inspires her grandson, family members and others with her childhood memories of surviving the Holocaust during World War II. Wednesday, February 22nd at 8:30am on Classroom Channel 20, repeating every half-hour until 3:30pm. Grades 6-12 MLK JR Brain Bowl BECON partners with the City of Lauderhill to bring you the “9th Annual MLK Taskforce Hall and Rosenberg Brain Bowl.” This academic quiz show, hosted by “School Duel’s” Lisa Lee, is designed to reward and showcase intellectual talent in South Florida’s schools, as well as serve as a positive educational tool for students. The 2017 schools participating in the televised rounds include Plantation Middle, Lauderdale Lakes Middle, Seminole Middle, Sunrise Middle and Phyl’s Academy. Tuesday, February 20th through Friday, February 24th at 9:30am and 3pm on Classroom Channel 14. Grades 9-12 Florida Crossroads “Florida Historic Places: Fort Mose and Fort Gadsen” Perhaps Florida’s first mention in the history books came when Spanish Explorer Juan Ponce de Leon set foot on the shores of “la florida.” Since then, Florida’s role in American history has been an important one, and its land has often been a place of refuge for many. Florida Crossroads visits the sites of two historic forts that you won’t find on a road map today: Fort Mose and Fort Gadsden. Thursday, February 22nd at 1:30pm on Classroom Channel 14.
